Pakistan’s Shoaib Malik has responded to fans calling him out for “teaching” Virat Kohli how to bat. In an analysis on the popular Pakistani cricket show ‘The Pavilion’ on A Sports, Malik said that Kohli sometimes isn’t comfortable against spinners. Soon, there was a volley of criticism for Malik from Kohli fans. A question from a fan in another post-match show in the programme read, “Shoaib Malik, thank you for teaching Virat Kohli how to bat; now please teach acting to Amitabh Bachchan as well.” Malik had to respond to this barrage.

Malik, who was in the ‘The Pavilion’ show along with Pakistan legends Wasim Akram, Misbah-ul-Haq and Moin Khan, said that all batters have weaknesses. Shoaib explained that the audience had misinterpreted the point that he was trying to make about Kohli. He claimed that he only wanted people to understand that Kohli wasn’t comfortable against spinners. “All I said was that any batter, whose feet move across, faces troubles facing spin. If you want examples, there are so many greats; you can ask anyone,” Malik said.

The drama started in an episode when Malik had dissected Kohli’s batting. It led to a massive backlash against the Pakistani player from Indian fans resulting in him being trolled.

Arguably the most complete cricketer in the world, Kohli has consistently performed at the top level year after year. Kohli’s efforts towards cricket have earned him the praise of millions of fans. This means that any form of criticism of the player often leads to a brute backlash from his millions of supporters.

Kohli has been in stellar form for India this year. He has amassed 442 runs for his country at the ongoing World Cup while boasting an average of 88 runs. He has also been at the end of some crucial match-winning knocks against opponents including Australia, New Zealand and Sri Lanka.

India will face South Africa next at the Eden Gardens Stadium on November 5. Both sides are having a phenomenal tournament, acquiring the top two spots on the table. Given the importance of the match, all eyes shall once again be on Virat Kohli to deliver a great knock for India, to help the hosts continue their undefeated run to the semis.
