UP: Rape Victim Attempts to Set Herself on Fire in Meerut, Demands Arrest of Accused – News18

A rape victim attempted to set herself on fire during a grievance redressal programme in Uttar Pradesh’s Meerut on Saturday.

The woman and her family came to the ‘Sampoorna Samadhan Diwas’ in Sardhana and carried inflammable substances with them. They demanded the arrest of the accused in the rape case, said Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Rohit Singh Sajwan.

Sajwan further said that the police took away the inflammable substances from the family and assured them of taking action against the accused.

As per Sarurpur police officials, the incident happenned around six months ago, at a time when the woman was a minor. Following the incident, she had filed a rape case against a youth of her village.

The SSP also said that the complaint was already registered regarding the matter, earlier. However, during the investigation, it was found that the accused was in Punjab at that time and was not present in the area.

Instructions have been given to the Sarurpur police officials to take immediate action in this matter, said SDM Pankaj Prakash Rathore.

Few days ago, a 14-year-old boy was apprehended for allegedly raping a four-year-old girl in a village in Uttar Pradesh’s Deoria district.

Deoria Superintendent of Police Sankalp Sharma said the incident took place at a time when the girl was out grazing goats.

Last month, a minor girl, who was on her way to school in an auto, was allegedly kidnapped and gang-raped by three men in Uttar Pradesh’s Hapur district. The accused were known to the victim’s father and had forcefully made her sit on their bike, while she was travelling in the auto.

As per an India Today report, the victim, the class 11 student was taken to a hotel where she was allegedly gangraped. The accused filmed the entire act and threatened the victim that they will leak the video if she discloses the incident to anyone.
