The Indian batting unit failed miserably in the World Cup final against Australia at Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad. It was a tough track to bat on and star India batters Shubman Gill, Shreyas Iyer, Ravindra Jadeja and Suryakumar Yadav failed to put up a fight against the star-studded Australia bowling attack.

India were bundled out for just 240 despite half-centuries from KL Rahul (66) and Virat Kohli (54). India kept losing wickets at regular intervals and failed to recover which led to the dismal show at the biggest stage.

Premier Aussie pacer Mitchell Starc took an early wicket by sending young Shubman Gill back to the hut for just 4. It was a big blow for India as Shubman enjoys a good record at Narendra Modi Stadium but he failed to replicate it on the biggest stage.

Rohit Sharma once again batted with an aggressive approach and scored 47 runs off 31 balls but it was another occasion where he failed to convert it into a big score.

In-form Shreyas Iyer also had an off day as he scored just 4 and was dismissed by Aussie skipper Pat Cummins.

Kohli and Rahul grind hard and shared a 67-run stand for the fourth wicket. It was another rescue mission for the duo after the Chennai clash against the same opposition however, this time Pat Cummins had some different plans as he castled Kohli for 54.

After Kohli’s departure, it went downhill for India as Ravindra Jadeja just managed to score 9.

Suryakumar Yadav, who was designated finisher of India, also failed on the big stage and was dismissed for 18 off 28 balls.

Five-time champions Australia elected to field first and the players backed up skipper Pat Cummins’ decision with disciplined bowling and impressive fielding at the world’s biggest cricket stadium filled with a sea of India’s blue jerseys.

Mitchell Starc, a left-arm quick, returned figures of 3-55 while fellow pace bowlers Cummins and Josh Hazlewood claimed two each to end the innings in 50 overs.
