It seems as if the Uruguayan may finally be on his last legs of his career as he bid farewell to his recent club Gremio, after scoring his final goal for them.
555 goals, 302 assists, 24 trophies, 7 clubs, one man. Luis Suarez has cemented his place in the upper echelons of football as one of the best greatest strikers of all time.
The notorious Uruguayan ran riot all across the globe, banging in goals all over and his exploits were no feat to dismiss. Two European Golden Shoes, an Eredivisie Golden Boot, a Premier League Golden Boot, and a Pichichi trophy. All of it belongs to one Luis Suarez.
One can never forget the hell Suarez would bring upon defenders galore, scoring at will and celebrating with his trademark kisses across his bandage-wrapped right hand to rub salt in the opposition’s wounds, all with a beaming smile across his face.
But, it seems as if the Uruguayan may finally be on his last legs of his career as he bid farewell to his recent club Gremio, after scoring his final goal for them.
An emotional Suarez took one last victory lap alongside his family, as the realization that the end of his run in Brazil and possibly in football has arrived set in.
Suarez joined Brazilian side Gremio on a two-year deal in January, but had also previously announced that the club have agreed to bring the end of his contract forward one year to December 2023.
I don’t know if I’ll continue to play somewhere else because I have a chronic issue with my knee that you all know about. I’d ask Gremio supporters to value the fact that they have a 37-year-old player who always plays despite having a lot of pain in his knee. That’s all I ask.”
The striker leaves the Brazilian side having scored 24 goals and provided 17 assists in 52 games in all competitions. Suarez is now a free agent and is on the lookout for a new club.
The rumours that popped up instantly upon the release of his statement were centered around a possible reunion with his former Barcelona teammate Lionel Messi in Inter Miami to inspire on last hurrah as the last years of his career neared him.
Suarez has, however, suggested that there are no guarantees that he will end up in MLS, with no decision made as yet regarding an extension to his playing career through 2024.
Luis Suárez on his future: “I can feel pain, my body is speaking for me. I want to enjoy and then decide for myself after a long career”.“I need to rest, enjoy my family… then the destiny will know where I’ll be in the future”.

In his final presser for Gremio, the former Liverpool man said: “I can feel pain, my body is speaking for me. I want to enjoy and then decide for myself after a long career. I need to rest, enjoy my family… then the destiny will know where I’ll be in the future,” hinting at a possible retirement.
But, regardless of whether he makes the move to Miami, or settles in back home to reminisce about his career, one thing is for sure: El Pistolero will live in the minds of us all for generations to come.
