Gogoro introduces its first electric scooter, the CrossOver GX250, in India, featuring a unique battery-swapping ecosystem.
Gogoro, the Taiwanese electric vehicle (EV) manufacturer, has introduced its first electric scooter, the Gogoro CrossOver GX250, in India.
Accompanying the launch is the inauguration of Gogoro’s battery-swapping ecosystem.
Initially catering to business-to-business (B2B) customers in Delhi and Goa, the battery-swapping facilities are set to expand to Mumbai and Pune in the first half of 2024, with direct consumer availability expected in the second quarter of the same year.
The Gogoro CrossOver series offers three variants: the CrossOver GX250, CrossOver 50 and CrossOver S.
The GX250, the first to hit the Indian market, is manufactured in Maharashtra, marking Gogoro’s debut in the Make in India initiative. The scooter integrates India-specific modifications based on feedback from Gogoro pilot riders in the country.
Horace Luke, the Founder and CEO of Gogoro, was quoted by HT Auto emphasising the imminent transformation in the global urban transportation scenario. He noted that with over 250 million mopeds and motorcycles, India is strategically poised to spearhead the transition towards sustainable consumer and B2B transportation.
Luke highlighted the significance of the Gogoro CrossOver series, stating that it encapsulates the core values of the brand.
The CrossOver series is built on a redesigned all-terrain frame, providing enhanced rigidity and comfort along with various storage, riding and customization capabilities.
The CrossOver GX250, designed for Indian roads, boasts the brand’s highest-ever ground clearance at 176mm.
The scooter utilizes a 2.5kW Direct Drive, offering a top speed exceeding 60kph and a certified range of 111 km.
The newly developed frame enhances the suspension system’s durability, accommodating larger loads while ensuring rider comfort and stability.
With a focus on adaptability, the CrossOver GX250 features passenger riding space and ample storage options, including a new mounting point expansion system with 26 locking points. Four cargo areas, including platform design headlight, foot, seat, and rear cargo space, allow the scooter to cater to a range of storage needs. The rear seat can be flipped up or removed to provide additional cargo space.
In August, the International Centre for Automotive Technology (ICAT) certified the CrossOver GX250 for India. Subsequently, in November, Gogoro achieved recognition from the Small Industries Development Bank of India (SIDBI), making it the first foreign two-wheel OEM to be entitled to SIDBI’s EV financing programs.
Luke highlighted the demand for Gogoro’s battery-swapping technology and EVs in India, emphasizing the potential impact on last-mile delivery riders. He stated, “Enabling these delivery riders to adopt smart sustainable electric transportation can have an accelerated impact on a city.”
