In the reality show 'Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa 11', most of the celebrities from the entertainment industry have become contestants, while wrestler Sangeeta Phogat also surprised everyone by joining as a contestant. She has also impressed the audience and judges with her dancing skills.
Sangeeta, the youngest of the Phogat sisters, told how she always had an interest in dance but due to family reasons she decided to take up wrestling. Recently, during a special conversation with Dainik Bhaskar, Sangeeta told that she will soon start preparing for the Olympics. During the conversation, he also talked about the ongoing performance of wrestlers in the country.
She used to participate in dance without telling father.
Sangeeta, who has been interested in dance since childhood, says, 'I have been wrestling for the last several years, meanwhile this journey of dancing is quite different which I am enjoying a lot. Well, I was very fond of dancing since childhood. I got wrestling from my family but I have a lot of interest in dance.
Whenever I got a chance in school, I used to participate in dance. Actually, our family was not allowed to participate in any activity other than wrestling. That's why she used to participate without telling father.
Papa changed a lot with time
She further said, 'During schooling, I managed to hide my love for dancing from my father. Papa came to know about this show very late. At that time, she knew that I was in Mumbai but had no idea that I had come to Mumbai to participate in a dance show.
However, now they are fully supporting and even ask me about the voting process going on in the show. There has been a lot of change in them with time.
I want to fulfill my father's dream by winning a medal in the Olympics.
Sangeeta wants to participate in the Olympics to fulfill her father's dream. This year the Olympics have been organized in Paris, France. Regarding this she says, 'Papa is also a little worried about the Olympics. They keep asking me when the show will end so that I can start training for the Olympics. After 'Jhalak…', I will start my wrestling journey again.
I want to fulfill my father's dream by participating in the Olympics and winning a medal.
Only he who has power gets justice.
Sangeeta was at the forefront of protests against BJP MP Brij Bhushan, who was accused of sexual harassment last year. Regarding this, Sangeeta said, 'Everyone knows about the truth, yet no solution is emerging. I think this is all a game of power. Only the one who has power gets justice.
On 18 January 2023, Vinesh Phogat, Sakshi Malik and Bajrang Punia started a protest at Jantar Mantar. He had accused then wrestling association president Brijbhushan Singh of sexual exploitation.
