Prashanth made his acting debut with the 1990 box-office hit Vaigasi Poranthachu. The actor rose to immense stardom with filmmaker Shankar’s romantic comedy Jeans in 1998, in which he played a dual role alongside Aishwarya Rai. The success of this film saw him garner opportunities to work on bigger film projects, and then he went on to star in films such as Vanna Vanna Pookkal, Aanazhagan, Thiruda Thiruda, Kannedhirey Thondrinall, and Senthamizh Selvan. But the actor started losing out on films due to turmoil in his personal life. He got married to Grahalakshmi in 2005, but soon the couple got separated in 2009.
Prashanth was last seen as the lead actor in Johnny, which was released in 2018. The Tamil-language action thriller film was directed by Vetriselvan and produced by Thiagarajan. Johnny got mixed reviews from critics and the audience. The film was a remake of the 2007 Hindi film Johnny Gaddaar.
