Veteran actress Smriti Biswas, who has worked in many Hindi, Marathi and Bengali films, has passed away. Smriti died at her residence in Nashik city of Maharashtra. Sources said that 100-year-old Smriti Biswas breathed her last late Wednesday night due to age-related problems. She was living on rent in a one BHK flat in Nashik. Smriti started her career as a child artist.

Worked in many films

Smriti Biswas worked in Hindi, Marathi and Bengali films in her career. She worked with big actors of cinema like Kishore Kumar, Balraj Sahni, Guru Dutt, V Shantaram, Mrinal Sen, Bimal Roy, BR Chopra, Dev Anand and Raj Kapoor.

Made her debut with a Bengali film

Smriti made her Bollywood debut with the Bengali film ‘Sandhya’ (1930). ‘Baap Re Baap’, ‘Dilli Ki Thug’, ‘Bhaggam-Bhag’, ‘Modern Girl’, ‘Nek Dil’ and ‘Aparajita’ were her famous films. But ‘Model Girl’ (1960) was her last Hindi film.

How was the life of Smriti Biswas

Smriti Biswas married filmmaker SD Narang. After which she distanced herself from the film industry. After her husband’s death, she shifted to Nashik to stay with her sister. She had to face financial difficulties in the last days of her life. Smriti celebrated her 100th birthday on 17 February 2024.
