Congress president Sonia Gandhi has appointed Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury as party’s new West Bengal president. The post of state unit chief was lying vacant after the demise of former president Somen Mitra. Chowdhury is already the leader of the Lok Sabha. The decision is being seen as a strategy of the grand old party as the state will go for assembly polls in 2021. Sources said that Chowdhury does not want to leave his identity as a national political leader. He will be meeting the press in the state unit’s office soon.
