Devotees doing Pind Daan at Ramgaya Ghat in Vindhyachal during Pitru Paksha
In Vindhyachal, Lord Shri Ram had donated Pind Daan to his father Dasharatha. While returning from Gaya in the first phase of Treta Yuga, Lord Shri Ram worshiped his father Dasharatha on the banks of the river Ganga in the Vindhya region by making a mortal remains of Lord Shiva by donating Pind to his father Dasharatha. Where Pinddaan was done, he established Ramgaya Ghat and at some distance Rameshwaram Mahadev was made by making earthly Shivling.
Which later came to be known as Shivpur. Since then the tradition of Pind Daan is going on at Ram Gaya Ghat of Vindhyachal. On Pitru Visarjan Amavasya Tithi, lakhs of devotees who come from far away get blessings by donating Pind to their ancestors. This year Amavasya Tithi is falling on 25th September.

On his return to Ayodhya, Lord Shri Ram donated his father’s pind at various places. On entering the Vindhya Khand, he performed Pind Daan for his father Dasharatha after getting the permission of Guru Vashistha. Since then this place came to be known as Ram Gaya Ghat. Even today people come to do Pind Daan in Pitru Paksha. On the new moon day of Ashwin month Krishna Paksha, a large number of people arrive from the district as well as from the surrounding districts to offer Pind Daan.

It is believed that in the first phase of Treta Yuga, Lord Shri Ram, while offering Pind Daan to his father at various places, reached Gaya in Bihar province and also performed tarpan etc. for the father’s peace. While returning from there, he realized the power on Vindhya mountain. Pind Daan was performed at this place on the orders of Guru Vashistha. Since then this place is famous as Ram Gaya Ghat.

Goswami Nagendra Giri, the priest of Rameshwaram Mahadev Temple, told that after Pind Daan, Lord Shri Ram established the earthly Shivling in the Vindhya region. Which is known as Rameshwaram Mahadev. The vastness of the Shivling can be gauged from the fact that till date no person has been able to embrace the huge Shivling with outstretched hands. People from far and wide come to this mythological place.

Teerth priest Pandit Anil Dwivedi told that the glory of the area is unmatched. Maryada Purushottam Lord Shri Ram has established his adoration and made the area Shiva-powerful. Lakhs of devotees come and do Pind Daan on Amavasya Tithi.
