The voting process has been started this morning itself for the three-tier Gram Panchayat by-election in Unnao. Voting will be done for two Pradhan and two BDC posts today. 20 polling parties have been set up for voting. On Wednesday, the parties were sent to the polling booths from Sikanderpur Sarosi and Bighapur blocks. The process of voting has started from 7 am today and will continue till 5 pm.
Puttilal, who was the head of Gram Panchayat Pura Nispansari of Sikandarpur Sarosi, died in December 2021 due to illness. Apart from this, Vinay, who was Karmi Pradhan of Bighapur, died in April 2022 due to brain hemorrhage. After the death of Pradhan, both the seats are running vacant. Apart from this, there are two vacant seats of Kshetra Panchayat members.
Ballot boxes will be kept in the strong room
The voting process started from today morning itself. After the completion of voting, the ballot boxes will be kept in the strong rooms built in the block offices itself. Assistant Returning Officer (Body/Panchayat) VK Srivastava said that the preparations for the by-election had been completed. Voting is also going on today. According to the Assistant Returning Officer, 12 seats of Gram Panchayat member and one seat of BDC have remained vacant due to non-enrollment.
Eight candidates are in the fray for the presidency
A total of eight candidates are in the fray for the two vacant main seats. There are four candidates in Karmi and four in Pura Nispansari. Two candidates are facing each other in the Barwat seat of Sikanderpur Sarosi. Similarly, there are three candidates in Miyaganj’s Nauhai elderly BDC seat.
Tight security arrangements
Tight security arrangements have been made at the booths during the polling that began for both the posts. From the CO to the concerned station in-charge, there is a constantly moving seal, no negligence of any kind is being taken.
