Allahabad High Court has given exemption for appointment to only 81 out of 143 candidates selected in women quota in Excise Constable Recruitment. On a petition filed regarding the remaining selected, a response has been sought from the State Government and the Uttar Pradesh Subordinate Services Selection Board. The petition will be heard on July 18. Justice Rajiv Mishra has given this order on the petition of Pramod Kumar Singh and five others.
Challenged the result released on March 15
The petition has challenged the validity of the selection result released on 15 March 22 by the Secretary/Chairman of the Board.
The petitioners say that the recruitment of 405 Excise Constables was taken out. In which horizontal reservation has been implemented for women. Those women who have been selected on merit without claiming reservation have also been selected. They have been included in the posts reserved for women. The petitioner says that the total number of selected female candidates should not exceed 81. Therefore the selection of 143 women is illegal.
The government and board’s advocates could not state any rule that women’s reservation is not horizontal and not more than 81 women have been selected. The court considered the issue to be sub-judice and issued notice to the opposition number 4 to 12 and sought answers from all the opposition.
