The encounter with terrorists in Kokernag area of Jammu and Kashmir’s Anantnag is still underway a day after three security force officers including an Army Colonel were killed in the operation.
Colonel Manpreet Singh, Major Aashish Dhonchak, deputy superintendent of Jammu and Kashmir Police Humayun Bhat were critically injured in the encounter and died later on Wednesday.
Paying tribute to the personnel killed in the operation, Kashmir Police said forces have encircled two it has “encircled” two Lashkar-e-Toiba terrorists, including one identified as Uzair Khan.

Uzair Ahmad Khan (28), a resident of, Nagam Kokernag in Anantnag, was said to have been missing since July 26 2022. Intelligence agencies believe Uzair is accompanied by two foreign terrorists.

News18 has learnt that while the operation is still underway the encounter in Anantnag is indicating attempts to promote terrorism and disturb peace in not just Jammu or Kashmir alone but in the whole region.
Sources said attacks and activities south of Pir Panjal and in areas of Poonch and Rajouri were considered as “change in plan”. This is also because of presence of security forces in Kashmir and a number of hurdles in infiltration, sources said.
Infiltration attempts have gone down but it has not ended yet, sources said, adding that ahead of Anti Infiltration Obstacle System (AIOS) in Rajouri and Poonch, a number of attempts have been thwarted in the past few months.
Northern Command GOC-IN-C Lt Col Upendra Dwivedi said that foreign terrorists are coming via Nepal route too. The jungles in the area are interconnected and terrain is quite challenging. The group that is believed to be involved in encounter has carried out attacks in Jammu too.
Romeo Forces, which is dealing with terrorism and insurgency in Rajouri and Poonch, has neutralized 11 terrorists in recent months.
Sources within the Army indicate that the inputs on the presence of terrorists will be investigated as well. This was a specific input to which the operation was launched.
Shadow organisations of Pakistan-based terror groups have taken the responsibility.
