Anderson needs only 8 wickets to complete 1000 wickets in first class cricket.

From today, the second Test between England and New Zealand will be played in Birmingham. England’s fast bowler James Anderson will make another record in this match as soon as he walks on the field. He will go on to become the highest Test player for England.

Former English captain Alastair Cook and Anderson have played 161-161 Test matches so far. With this, Anderson also has a chance to break the record of India’s legendary spinner Anil Kumble. Anderson took two wickets in the first Test against New Zealand at Lord’s. This match was a draw.

Anderson only active cricketer among 150+ test players
Till now total 9 cricketers have played 150+ Tests in International Cricket. Anderson is the only active player in this list. In this, Indian legend Sachin Tendulkar tops the list with 200 Tests. After this, Australia’s Ricky Ponting and Steve Waugh played 168-168 Tests.

South African all-rounder Jacques Kallis played 166 Tests. Shivnarine Chanderpaul of West Indies and The Wall Rahul Dravid of India have played 164-164 Test matches. Anderson and Cook come next.

Anderson the only Test bowler to take 600 wickets
Anderson is also the only fast bowler in the world to take 600 Test wickets. He currently has 616 wickets in 161 Tests. Apart from him, Glenn McGrath of Australia took 563 wickets in 124 Tests. Anderson is at number four among the highest wicket-takers in overall Tests. Former Sri Lankan spinner Muttiah Muralitharan holds the record for taking most wickets in Tests. He took 800 wickets in 133 matches.

Anderson has a chance to leave behind Anil Kumble
Shane Warne of Australia is second with 708 wickets in 145 Tests and Anil Kumble of India is third with 619 wickets in 132 Tests. If Anderson takes 4 wickets against New Zealand, he will overtake Kumble and move to number three. England’s Anderson and Broad are the only 2 active bowlers in the world’s top-10 highest wicket-takers in Tests.

Anderson completed 18 years in Tests last month
Last month, Anderson completed his 18 years in the Test format. He played his first Test match against Zimbabwe at Lord’s on 22 May 2003 and also took 5 wickets in the first innings. James Anderson will turn 39 on July 30, 2021. Even at the age of 38, Anderson’s strength is not over and he is being touted as England’s most important weapon for the Test series against India in August-September this year.

These reasons make Anderson effective even after so many years…

1. Excellent fitness, emphasis on running
Like other cricketers in the world, James Anderson has also been injured. But, the frequency of his injury has been much less than other fast bowlers. Most of the fast bowlers shorten the run-up with age. But, Anderson kept it up.

2. Great Partner, Workload Management
James Anderson never got too much workload. He was fed more matches in seaming and swinging conditions. Also, getting a partner like Stuart Broad also reduced the burden on him.

3. Constantly learning new skills
It took 5 years for Anderson to cement his place in the England team. But, after that he continued to learn new skills. Traditional swing he used to do well from the beginning. Later he also learned reverse swing. There is no mode that Anderson is not proficient in including slow delivery, bower, cutter.

“Want to play all 7 Tests before the Ashes”
Anderson recently said – I am fit now and I do not think I have played many matches. I don’t feel old or tired and that’s a good thing. I would love to play all the seven Tests against New Zealand and India in the English summer. After that we have to play the Ashes. We wish we had a good summer before the Ashes. I know playing all the seven Tests will not be easy. But some solution will be found.

Anderson said – it is all about workload management. If I bowl 20 overs in one Test, I will definitely play the second Test. But if I bowled 50 overs in one Test, I would have to think about the second Test. However, we will get a lot of rest after the Test series against New Zealand. The match against India is to be held in August. But there is not much gap between test matches. Therefore players can also be rotated.

Anderson is 8 wickets away from 1000 wickets in first class
Anderson needs only 8 wickets to complete 1000 wickets in first class cricket. He said 1000 wickets seems too much. At the moment, I don’t know whether it is possible to get so many wickets in the first class. The way cricket is being played, the career of bowlers does not seem to be very long. Apart from Test, a lot of ODI and T20 cricket is also being played.
