The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Delhi has established an independent Art School of Artificial Intelligence (ScAI) on its campus. It will be the country’s first AI and 6th school on the campus of IIT Delhi. The institute will start admission for PhD program in it from next academic year 2021. According to the institute, professional level educational programs will also be started for students after the core AI researchers join the institute.
AI technology will help in the development of the country
IIT Delhi Director V Ramgopal Rao said, “A program in AI is needed as the current degrees are broad-based, which does not help students to learn in-depth different concepts of AI.” The institute said in a statement on Wednesday that “the school aims to improve IIT Delhi’s leadership position in India and improve its global position”.
He also said that, “The future progress of any nation depends on its AI capability.” India ranks fifth in the world in AI companies and jobs, but it lags behind “some very important aspects, especially in the number of AI researchers”. He claimed that this school would be helpful in filling this gap.
Ten core faculty members will be appointed in the next ten years

According to the institute, “it will become a center for industry or government interested in the collaboration or funding of AI innovations.” The purpose of this school is to provide a platform to industry, government and civil society institutions to share their domain problems. In the next ten years, ten core faculty members related to Artificial Intelligence will also be appointed. They will contribute especially on research.
