Dominic Thiem of Austria defeated Rafael Nadal of Spain 7-6, 7-6. The match lasted for 2 hours 25 minutes.
The ATP World Tour Finals released in London between Corona saw a big contest on Tuesday. In this, US Open champion Dominique Thiem of Austria defeated 20 Gland Slam winner Spain’s Rafael Nadal in straight sets 7-6, 7-6.
The match between world number-2 Nadal and world number-3 Thiem lasted for 2 hours 25 minutes. With this win, Thiem leads 2–0 in the round robin format. He has a chance to reach the semi-finals for the second consecutive season. They now face Andrey Rublev of Russia.
Medvedev faces world no.1 Djokovic
At the same time, Russia’s Denil Medvedev defeated Alexander Zverev of Germany 6-3, 6-4. Now their next match is to be Novak Djokovic of World No. 1 Serbia. Medvedev is the first Russian player to play in ATP finals consistently after Nikolay Divyadenko. Nikolay played the tournament from 2005 to 2009.
Thiem wins US Open for the first time
World No-3 Thiem won the first US Open title of his career in September. He is the first player from Austria to win the US Open Singles title. This was his first Grand Slam title. He defeated Alexander Zverev of Germany 2–6, 4–6, 6–4, 6–3, 7–6 (6) in a thrilling final. 71 years later, a player captured the title after losing the first two sets in the final of the US Open. Earlier Pancho Gonzalez did this feat in 1949. The winner was decided for the first time through a tiebreaker.
