The atmosphere of Allahabad Central University, which is called ‘Oxford of the East’, is hot. After 400% fee hike, students are continuously protesting against the university administration. However, bypassing the students’ protest, the university’s vice-chancellor Sangeeta Srivastava has claimed that after the year 1922, now the fees of the university have been increased this year. These fees are very less as compared to other central universities of the country.
The VC’s claim on the course fee of the university may be true, but studying here is the most expensive among the central universities of the whole country. We have compared the new fees of Allahabad University with the fee structure of major central universities across the country. After this, the figures related to the expensive hostel fees have been told through graphic.

University’s argument – Fee hike is an attempt to reduce dependence on the government
On the fee hike, the Allahabad University administration says that the universities have received orders from the government that they will have to arrange funds at their level. That’s why we have tried to reduce our dependence on the government by increasing the fees for the courses. The tuition fee charged from students every month for the last 110 years was Rs 12. It was necessary to increase the electricity bill, hostel maintenance fee.
University’s outstanding electricity bill was Rs 7.5 crore

According to the information received from the Vice Chancellor’s office of the university, the total outstanding electricity bill here has reached Rs 7.5 crore. There are total 20 hostels in the university, in which 30 thousand students live. The university administration says that even during the Corona period, the students used electricity a lot, but no one was ready to pay the bill. The burden of outstanding money is increasing, the power of the university can be cut at any time.
National Students Union of India (NSUI): Akhilesh Yadav, the state president of the students’ organization said, “Allahabad University is not a mall that you are selling pickles, whey here. The boys who come out of the university after studying, they become officers in the future. You develop human resources here. If you look at it from the point of view of money-raising, then you will deviate from your goal. Akhilesh also raised the issue of expensive hostel fees of the university.

Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP): Union worker Atendra Singh said, “The decision to increase the fees is completely wrong. If the fees were to be increased, then the university administration should have talked. It would have been right then the proposal would have come before the student union office-bearers, PhD scholars.”
On the question of self-immolation attempts amid the protests, Atendra says, “Our organization does not support it. The fight can be fought only by being alive. You shut the university. Make a roadblock. But don’t commit suicide. This will put a strain on the university.” There won’t be any impact, but it will definitely affect your family.”
ABVP student leader Atendra Singh says that the hostel fee of the university administration is the most expensive in the entire country. A child from a poor family cannot study here.
Samajwadi Student Council: Student leader Shubham said, “The financial condition of the students studying here has not been very good. If the fees will be increased now, how will the children be able to study further. If the fees had not increased, the students would not have been forced to drink kerosene. “
