The pair lost 0-3 to Japanese pair Miwa Harimoto and Miyu Kihara in the semi-finals on Sunday. With this the Indian pair had to be satisfied with the bronze medal. This tournament was started by the Asian Table Tennis Association in 1972.

Earlier, the Indian pair had secured their place for the first time in the semi-finals of the Asian Table Tennis Championship being played in Astana. The Indian pair defeated the Paris Olympics bronze medalist South Korean pair of Kim Nayong and Lee Yunhee 3-1 in the quarterfinals. With this, the Indian team secured the medal, which is the first medal of the Indian women’s team in the history of this tournament.

Indian pair lost all three consecutive games in semi-finals In the semi-finals, the Indian pair of Sutirtha Mukherjee and Ayhika had to face defeat in all three consecutive games. In the first game, the Indian pair looked helpless in front of the Japanese pair. The Japanese pair easily won this game 11-4. However, in the second and third games the Indian pair tried to make a comeback, but they did not succeed. In the second and third games, India lost 9-11, 9-11.

Bounced back after losing the first game to South Korea in the quarter-finals and won three consecutive games. In the quarter-finals, the pair of Sutirtha Mukherjee and Ayhika performed brilliantly against Paris Olympics bronze medalists Kim Nayong and Lee Yunhee of South Korea. The Indian pair had to face defeat by 10-12 in the first game. After that the Indian pair made a comeback in the second game and defeated the South Korean pair 11-7. The third game was won by 11-9 and the fourth game was won by 11-8.

Manav and Manush reached the last 16 In men’s singles, India’s Manav Thakkar defeated world number 14 Jang Woojin of South Korea 3-2 in a tough match and made it to the pre-quarterfinals. At the same time, Manush Shah defeated South Korea’s number 23 player Jaehyun 3-0 and reached the last-16.
