Balraj Panwar will represent the country in rowing at the 2024 Paris Olympics. Following the completion of his 12th-grade education, Panwar joined the army with an impressive 82% in his 10th-grade exams, as per an official release.

The 24-year-old started his rowing career in 2020 and quickly gained prominence in national rowing competitions, winning medals at the 40th and 41st Senior National Rowing Championships and the 37th National Games in Goa, the release added. He also won a bronze medal at the 41st Senior National Championship in the 500m event, as per the official release.

Panwar also participated in the Rowing World Cup held in Switzerland last year and registered a fourth-place finish at the 2022 Asian Games in China, as per the official release.

Paris Olympics Qualification:

Balraj Panwar secured a third-place finish in the men’s single sculls event at the Asian and Oceaninan Rowing Qualification Regatta to qualify for the Paris Olympics 2024, as per Olympics.com. The 24-year-old earned India’s first Paris 2024 quota in rowing having claimed a bronze medal in the men’s single sculls (M1x) event earlier this year.

“We are going there 20 days in advance and I’m sure it won’t feel ‘strange’. It will help us acclimatise to the weather and be ready,” Balraj Panwar was quoted as saying by news agency PTI in a virtual media interaction organised jointly by SAI, IOA and the Rowing Federation of India.

Recent Performances

In one of his recent performances, Balraj Panwar bagged the bronze medal in the men’s single sculls (M1x) event at the Asian and Oceanian Rowing Olympic Qualification Regatta, in Chungju, South Korea in May.
