Bangladesh defeated Netherlands in a Group D match in the T20 World Cup on Thursday. With Bangladesh’s victory, the 2014 champion Sri Lanka team has been eliminated from the Super-8 race. South Africa has already qualified from this group.

The top-2 teams from Group C, West Indies and Afghanistan, have made it to the Super-8. New Zealand is out of the race.

Now either Bangladesh or Netherlands will reach the Super-8. Whichever team moves forward will reach the same group in the next round as Team India. Let us understand why this will happen later. Before that, let us see the current position of all the teams in the points table.

Which team has to do what in Group-A

India’s path is already clear: The Indian team is ranked number 1. The team has already qualified for the Super 8. The result of the match against Canada will have no effect on India’s chances.
America needs 1 point: If the US team wins against Ireland today, it will move ahead with 6 points and Pakistan will be eliminated. There is a 60% chance of rain in this match. Even if the match is cancelled, the US team will reach the Super-8 with 5 points.
Two conditions for Pakistan: Pakistan needs to win against Ireland at any cost. Apart from this, it will also have to pray that the US team loses against Ireland.
Canada routes almost closed: Canada has a chance mathematically, but practically its doors are almost closed. Canada will have to win big against India to keep its chances alive.
Ireland needs two big wins: Ireland will have to win both their last matches by a big margin to reach the Super-8. In this case, Ireland and USA will have equal 4-4 points and the team with better net run rate will advance.

Which team has to do what in Group-B

Australia: Has qualified for Super-8.
Scotland: If it wins the last match against Australia then it will reach the Super-8.
Namibia: Super-8 is out of the race.
England: By achieving a big win over Oman, England has made their net run rate better than Scotland. However, even now if Scotland defeats Australia, England will have to look for an exit. England will have to win their last match to go to the Super-8 and also pray for Australia’s victory against Scotland.
Oman: Super-8 is out of the race.

Who has to do what in Group-C

West Indies: Has qualified for Super-8.
Afghanistan: It has qualified for the Super-8. It will play in India’s group in the Super-8.
Uganda: Is out of the race.
PNG: Is out of the race.
New Zealand: Is out of the race.

Who has to do what in Group-D

South Africa: Has qualified for Super-8.
Bangladesh: If they win the last match, they will reach the Super-8. They can move ahead even if they lose the last match but for this, Netherlands will also have to lose the last match.
Netherlands: If the Netherlands win their last match by a big margin and Bangladesh loses their last match, then the Netherlands team can go to the Super-8.
Nepal: Is out of the race.
Sri Lanka: Is out of the race.

Why Bangladesh can join India in Super-8
ICC had already decided the seeding of two teams from each group before the World Cup. That is, if these teams reach the Super-8, they will go with their seeding. This was done so that there is no need to wait for the group matches to be over to decide the schedule of Super-8.

For example, India’s seeding in Group A is A1. India will be called A1 in the Super-8. Based on this, it is already decided that if the Indian team progresses, then when and where its matches will be held.

If a team that has already got seeding does not go to the Super-8, then the team that replaces it will get the seeding. For example, in Group D, South Africa got D1 seeding and Sri Lanka got D2 seeding. If Bangladesh replaces Sri Lanka and comes to the Super-8, then it will get D2 seeding. According to the World Cup schedule, in the Super-8 round, the A1 team of Group A and the D2 team of Group D have to come together.

Australia will be in the same group as India
As the name suggests, there will be 8 teams in Super-8. The top-2 teams from each group from the group stage will qualify for it. These 8 teams have been divided into two groups of 4 each.
Group-1 There will be A1, B2, C1 and D2 teams. Group-2 There will be A2, B1, C2 and D1 teams.
like this Group-1 of Super-8 India (A1) and Australia (B2) have already been confirmed for the group. Either Bangladesh or Netherlands (as D2) and Afghanistan (as C1) will be added to this group.

super-8 K Group-2 South Africa’s participation has been confirmed. The names of the other teams are yet to be decided.
