India’s top shuttler Kidambi Srikanth started with a win in the Swiss Open Super-300 Badminton Tournament. He defeated compatriot Sameer Verma 18-21 21-18 21-11 in the first round. Sameer was the champion in this tournament in 2018.
World No-13 Srikanth will now take on the winner of the match between Thomas Roxall of France and Jiaodong Sheng of Canada in the next round. At the same time, the world number-19 Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Ashwini Ponnappa reached the second round.
Indonesia’s pair will face Satwik-Ashwini
Satwik and Ashwini defeated World No. 8 Indonesia’s Hafiz Faizal and Gloria Emmanuel Wijaja 21-18, 21-10 in consecutive sets in the first round. In the second round, they will face Indonesian pair of Rinov Rivaldi and Pitha Hanningtysa Mentari, who defeated Netherlands duo Van der Lake and Deoba district 21-13, 21-15 in the first round.
Third seeded pair defeated Jerry and Sikki Reddy
At the same time, the pair of Pranav Jerry Chopra and N Sikki Reddy lost in the first round. Jerry and Sikki Reddy were beaten by third seeded England pair Marcus Ellis and Lauren Smith 21–18 21–15 in 39 minutes. Jerry landed on the court for the first time since the All England Championship in March 2020.
