Ben Stokes has made his statement as he scored 182 runs off 124 deliveries against New Zealand in the third ODI as oppositions remain wary of his abilities with the World Cup inbound.

England’s World Cup-winning all-rounder Ben Stokes made his grand return to ODI cricket after reversing his retirement from the format. He made his return for the English side in the ODI series against New Zealand at home.

He has made a statement return in the format after being included in the World Cup squad travelling to India. He now holds the record for the highest individual score by an English batter scoring 182 and going past Jason Roy who managed to score 180 runs against Australia in Melbourne, in 2018.

Ben Stokes struck a partnership with opener, Dawid Malan after Jonny Bairstow and Joe Root were dismissed cheaply thanks to the brilliance of Trent Boult. Both Malan and Stokes managed to bring England back into the game with a partnership worth almost 200 runs. Malan was dismissed four runs short of his century but Stokes managed to carry on and score 150 runs.

England skipper, Jos Buttler managed to keep the momentum going by scoring 38 off 24 deliveries but he was dismissed thanks to Glenn Philips.

Ben Stokes marked his fourth ODI century with a celebration in tribute to his father who had passed away in December 2020.

He had also made a tribute to his father back in October 2020 when he scored a century for the Rajasthan Royals against Mumbai Indians.

He had a bit of luck in the 41st over where an LBW appeal by Glenn Philips went down to the umpire’s call which went for Stokes.

He eventually managed to score 182 after being dismissed by Ben Lister.

Stokes managed to score a half-century in his first game after his return but was not able to convert it into a big score. He was also dismissed cheaply in the second game. But the third ODI showcased why the all-rounder is one of the best even after coming back from retirement.

Ben Stokes will be in the minds of any opposition he comes against in the World Cup as the English side looks to defend the title in the 2023 ODI World Cup hosted in India.
