The bundles of notes have been sent to the Reserve Bank of India to be determined whether they are fake or real. Police are suspecting it to be the work of gangs linked to the ‘black dollar scam’
A ragpicker rifling through a pile of garbage in Bengaluru purportedly found a bag with 23 bundles of US dollars, which were valued at INR 25 crore. The notes have been sent to the Reserve Bank of India to be determined whether they are fake or real.
According to a report published by NDTV, the bundles were found on November 1 by a ragpicker identified as Salman Sheikh. He kept the bundle and reported the discovery to his boss, identified as Bappa, on November 5.
The NDTV report said Bappa contacted a social activist in the area, identified as Kali Mullah, who got in touch with the police commissioner.
Dayananda soon summoned Salman and Bappa, while handing over the investigation in the matter to the Hebbal police station. Since the notes are laced with chemical, the police are suspecting that this is the work of gangs linked to the ‘black dollar scam’.
