- Australian wicketkeeper batsman Alex Carrie enjoys cricket in bio-bubble
- Rohit can step up when Virat returns
Team India has reached Australia after IPL. The first ODI of the tour will be played on November 27 from 8 am. Cricket fans will be able to watch the match in Hindi on Sony Ten-3. Both teams are preparing to do better here and Australian wicketkeeper batsman Alex Carrie is busy building a strategy with the team at the zoom meeting.
They will start training on the field from next week. This series will also be played in bio-bubble. He believes that along with the Indian bowling attack, the batting attack is very strong and his target in the series will be to play quality cricket. Excerpts from his conversation…
The India-Australia series is considered to be the most difficult series of world cricket. How are you preparing yourself?
There is a meeting about strategy and approach on Zoom. We are currently in a hotel in Sydney, because all the players from Dubai have been kept here. We will meet before one day. The team’s sessions are being held at the zoom meeting itself. From next week, there will be a hard intensity training session so that the preparation of the series can be done in a better way.
Which bowler can get a tough challenge in the current series?
If you look at the bowling line-up of the Indian team, you will see many good international bowlers. Bumrah’s name is not surprising, because everyone knows about his quality. Shami’s second name in this. They like Australia’s condition very much. There are also Chahal and Jadeja, whom we have identified.
Kohli will be for the first test only. Do you think this is a golden opportunity for Australia?
This will affect the series. The absence of a quality and class player like Virat Kohli in three out of four Tests is a big thing for India. Nothing will change for us and we will prepare for the other three Test matches as before. This will be a big opportunity for Team India, when it can test another player. Maybe they can be Rohit Sharma. He is a quality batsman, but he has not achieved much in the Test. It may be that when Virat Kohli goes home, Rohit gets a chance. India also has quality players like Ajinkya Rahane, Cheteshwar Pujara, Lokesh Rahul.
Playing in the bio bubble is a big choice. What was your experience? Does it affect physical-mental health?
My experience so far has been really fun. For the first time in bubble I spent time in England and from here we shifted to Dubai in IPL bubble. It was a really pleasant experience for me. If you are successful, happy and feel good, then it means that there are many well-known faces around you that lead you to this point. They help you live in a happy environment. It was also exciting for me to come back to Australia and start the Summer of Cricket. We are all excited for the upcoming series and are keen on playing good cricket against India. Our entire group will start preparations for this series with enthusiasm and will compete well in the series after ten days.
You are still the number-2 wicketkeeper in the Australia-A team as Tim Paine is in the team. Do you think you can get a chance to play a test?
I am happy to represent the national team in limited overs cricket. But I also have an ambition to make it to the Test team. Whenever I go out to play cricket, I learn something new about my game. Then whether it is red ball cricket or white ball cricket. As a cricketer, I am now 28 years old. I am learning a lot about myself and as you mature, you start working on yourself. I am very happy even if I play white ball cricket for Australia only. I will continue to play, learn and do so well to get a test cap. It is a dream for any player to play a test match.
