Whereas OTT originals do not have commercial pressure, so there is no commercial power here, a strong story is decided and then not popularity, the artists are selected according to the need of that story. This is the reason why new artists, writers and directors are emerging from here.

Another big plus point of OTT Originals, says Adarsh, is that there is sure to be a global rich. Like my ‘The White Tiger’ was a Netflix American film. But, she was seen in 151 countries. Any maker can approach us with just one idea, one script or even with a complete finished film. Just the story and the way it is told should be authentic. We are inviting the story of every corner of India.

Main stream makers on OTT

This creative freedom and experimentation has given opportunity to so many new talents. ‘Bulbul’ met actors like Trupti Dimri and directors like Anvita Dutt. Found directors like Uday Singh Pawar from ‘Upstart’ and Neeraj Udhwani from ‘Maska’.

Now the new twist in the story is that some of the makers of the main stream have also turned towards OTT Originals. Like Vishal Bhardwaj is co-creating the spy thriller ‘Khufiya’ with his favorite main stream actress Tabu and OTT celebs Ali Fazal and Wamika Gabbi. Zoya Akhtar, on the other hand, is going to experiment with a musical film inspired by the ‘Archis’ series. Both the makers are experimenting with the Netflix platform, where they have no risk of commercial success.

Regional cinema has already been experimental as compared to Bollywood. The difference after OTT is that this cinema is getting a global platform. Malayalam film ‘Minal Murali’, based on the story of how a common man who works as a tailoring man becomes superhuman after being struck by lightning, is releasing on Netflix’s global platform on December 24.
