Jitin Prasad, who was close to Rahul Gandhi and one of the big leaders of Congress, has now joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). BJP will now use them to quell the anger of Brahmins in UP. SP sources tell that before joining BJP, Jitin wanted to join Samajwadi Party. Several rounds of meetings were held between him and SP chief Akhilesh Yadav. However, it did not work out. The Samajwadi Party was divided into two camps regarding Jitin.
One camp was pressurizing him to join the party, while the other was trying to convince Akhilesh that the party would not benefit from his arrival. Amidst this commotion, Akhilesh Yadav refused to include Jitin in the party.
Senior SP leader who is currently also MLC and is considered very close to Akhilesh, disclosed this in conversation with Bhaskar. SP’s MLC said, this is not a one day meeting. Since the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, he has been meeting Akhilesh ji continuously in Delhi. There were many meetings regarding joining the SP. When Akhilesh ji tried to know the views of the SP leaders about taking him into the party, the party leaders got divided into two groups.
Shahjahanpur leaders protested
The SP’s MLC further said, a camp was talking about taking him into the party, and was arguing that the party would get a Brahmin face with Jitin’s arrival. They can be used in the assembly elections to be held in Delhi as well as in UP next year. By making Jitin the national vice-president of the party, he can be activated in the politics of the Center.
At the same time, the second camp managed to convince Akhilesh that the party will not get any benefit if he joins the SP. Especially the leaders around Shahjahanpur and Dharhara opposed it. An MLA was also involved in this and Akhilesh accepted his point.
The argument of those who brought Jitin to the party
The army of leaders was associated with Netaji
The SP’s MLC said, “You see that when Netaji Mulayam Singh’s era was there, leaders of every caste and section were kept in high positions. Leaders like Amar Singh, Janeshwar Mishra, Mohan Singh, Ambika Chaudhary, Raja Bhaiya, Kunwar Revathi Raman Singh, Ambika Chaudhary, Narad Rai, Om Prakash Singh worked closely with Netaji. He should have taken this decision after considering his father’s political life.
Jitin had expressed his desire to be in the center
SP sources tell that Jitin had told Akhilesh Yadav in clear words that he would keep himself in the politics of the Center. He doesn’t have much ambition for UP too. However, there was talk of adjusting in Dharhara and some nearby seats. Which was opposed by those party leaders who were worried that after the arrival of Jitin, his influence around Shahjahanpur would also reduce in stature in the party.
What do political analysts say?
Senior journalist and political analyst Kumar Pankaj says that, “Jitin Prasad could have proved to be a profitable deal for the SP. SP does not have any Brahmin face who is active in national politics. There are leaders like Abhishek Mishra and Pawan Pandey but the national level is not as much national identity as Jitin’s. In such a situation, if he had come with Akhilesh, the SP would have benefited.
