Prime Minister Narendra Modi flagged off the first torch relay of this prestigious tournament ahead of the 44th season of the Chess Olympiad.

The torch (relay torch) of the Chess Olympiad being organized for the first time in the country will reach Lucknow on Sunday evening. Kanpur will reach first via Agra. Its grand reception and ceremony will be held in front of the assembly in the capital of UP. On coming to Lucknow by 7 pm, it will be first held by the Deputy CM of the state government. Two Grand Masters will also be present for the reception. This Chess Olympiad will be held in Mahabalipuram from July 28 to August 10.

Mahabalipuram will reach through 75 cities

The torch will travel through 75 cities in 40 days to reach Mahabalipuram near Chennai. In each city the torch will be handed over to the Chess Grandmaster of that state. The city of Agra, Kanpur, Lucknow is included in UP. Apart from this, Leh, Srinagar, Jaipur, Surat, Mumbai, Bhopal, Patna, Kolkata, Gangtok, Hyderabad, Bangalore, Thrissur, Port Blair, Kanyakumari are among the 75 cities through which the torch will pass. India is hosting this prestigious tournament for the first time in the nearly 100-year history of the Chess Olympiad. 188 countries have registered for the upcoming Olympiad.

Relay torch will pass through 75 cities of the country

The torch relay of 44th Chess Olympiad is starting from India. The relay was started by the Prime Minister of the country, Narendra Modi from the Indra Gandhi Stadium. On June 19, while launching, Prime Minister Modi said that today the first torch relay for the game of Chess Olympiad is starting from India. India is hosting this game for the first time this year. We are proud that a sport has emerged from its birthplace and is leaving its mark all over the world. Today the first Olympiad torch of chess is also coming out of India. Today, as India celebrates its 75th year of independence, the Amrit Mahotsav, this Chess Olympiad torch will also go to 75 cities of the country.

Flashlight relay is happening for the first time in Chess Olympiad

This is the first time that the torch relay is being organized before the Chess Olympiad. There have been 43 Chess Olympiads before this, but torch relay was not organized till now. According to Union Minister Anurag Thakur, this time more than two thousand players from 188 countries will participate in the Chess Olympiad. Till now torch relay was not organized in Chess Olympiad, but FIDE (International Chess Federation) has decided to organize torch relay for the first time and it is starting from India.
