Former New Zealand captain Brendon McCullum can become the head coach of the English cricket team. He will guide the English team in the red ball. An English website has claimed that the England and Wales Cricket Board is going to give this responsibility to the former Kiwi batsman in place of Chris Silverwood. If reports are to be believed, the deal between ECB and McCullum has been finalised. An official announcement will also be made in a couple of days to appoint Brendon McCullum as the coach of the England Test team. In addition to Brendon McCullum, Gary Kirsten, Simon Katich and Graham Ford have also been interviewed for the position of England’s Test team coach, but the ECB has expressed confidence in McCullum.

English team was badly defeated in the Ashes
The English team lost badly in the Ashes series played in Australia last year. It was defeated by the hosts 4-0. After this crushing defeat, English coach Chris Silverwood resigned as head coach. After that, South African opener Gary Kirsten became the Test coach. Then the former New Zealand player was overlooked.

Coaching against your own country

After becoming the coach, McCullum will have to start his coaching from the English team against the team of his own country. Actually, New Zealand will have to face the hosts at Lord’s from June 2. It is important to mention here that McCullum has played 101 Tests while captaining New Zealand in 31 matches.

Many records have also been created in IPL

The former Kiwi captain has created many troubles not only in the Test but also in the T20 format. The credit for giving recognition to the current Indian Premier League goes to this batsman. McCullum played an unbeaten innings of 158 runs in the very first season of the league. Which is still the highest individual score of T20 and league. He scored 2880 runs in the ten-year journey of IPL at a strike rate of 131.75. In his 106-match league career, McCullum has scored two centuries and 13 half-centuries. He has hit 293 fours and 130 sixes.

KKR’s concerns may increase:

With McCullum joining the English team, the concerns of KKR looking for a playoff route in IPL-15 may increase. McCullum is currently the coach of KKR. If they leave Kolkata, the franchise will have to find a new coach.
