‘Cancel Class for Emotional Recovery’: Student’s Appeal After India’s World Cup Loss is All of Us (Photo Credits: X)
Indian cricket fan requests institution to give a day off for ’emotional recovery’ after Rohit Sharma’s men’s devastating loss in World Cup 2023.
Just like an avid Indian cricket fan aptly described, ‘The morning after India’s World Cup heartbreak feels like facing the ‘Mondayest’ of Mondays,’ and the sentiment resonates deeply. Much like the eerie silence that descended upon the Narendra Modi Stadium post India’s stumble against Australia in the World Cup 2023 final, the morning dawned with no reprieve, the bitter taste of defeat lingering. This sentiment wasn’t confined to the cricket fans alone; a student, pouring their heart out in an email, pleaded for a day off from classes to collectively recover from the emotional aftershocks of India’s gut-wrenching loss on the global stage.
The screenshot, posted on the micro-blogging site ‘X’ by the user @lawyerussy, displayed a heartfelt message written on behalf of the student community to the institution. “Fellow students, I write with heavy heart, almost too difficult to type. I regret to remind you of today’s devastating loss in the world cup finals. However, in the larger interest of the student body the issue must be addressed. I request Monday the 20th of November to be a day of physical, mental, emotional and spiritual recovery. As such we want all classes to be cancelled,” it conveyed.

Isn’t this exactly what every Indian cricket devotee secretly wished for after enduring an unexpectedly painful Sunday?
Nevertheless, the post gained widespread attention, sparking laughter from users who couldn’t contain their amusement. “Only at NLS,” remarked one user, indicating that this incident likely occurred at the National Law School of India University. Another user exclaimed, “Looool.”
Meanwhile, in a similar vein, a school in Faridabad decided to postpone its unit test for several classes in light of the ICC Cricket World Cup final match between India and Australia. DAV Public School in Sector-14, Faridabad, released a circular on November 17, 2023, stating that the choice to postpone the test was made considering the “numerous requests” from the student body. Consequently, the tests slated to commence on November 20 were rescheduled to the following day.
