The 75th Cannes Film Festival in France has started on 18 May (Wednesday). The festival will continue till May 28. Union Minister Anurag Thakur inaugurated the ‘India Pavilion’ at Cannes. Many people including Deepika Padukone, Pooja Hegde, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Tamannaah Bhatia, Urvashi Rautela, AR Rahman, Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Shekhar Kapur, Prasoon Joshi, Mame Khan and Ricky Cage were present on this special occasion. During this, many celebs including Deepika Padukone, Pooja Hegde, Tamannaah Bhatia and R Madhavan gave very inspirational statements about India and the Indian film industry.

It is a matter of great pride to represent India: Deepika Padukone
Deepika Padukone said, “I feel proud that along with the Cannes Film Festival, it is also the 75th year of our country’s independence. It is a matter of great pride for all of us to represent India on this special occasion. On this special occasion, I would like to thank Rahman sir, Shekhar sir and many others like them, because of which India has earned a big name in the entertainment industry and we have reached where we are today. We are taking this country forward. I am sure that if we keep on progressing like this, then one day Cannes will not be in India but in India at Cannes Film Festival.”

I have come here with Brand India: Pooja Hegde
Pooja Hegde elaborated at the Indian Pavilion how honored she is to have the opportunity to participate in Cannes representing the rich culture of India. Pooja said, “It was always my dream to come to Cannes and thank you Anurag sir for making my dream come true. I have not come here with any other brand, I have come here with Brand India. I have joined here as the representative of India. There can be no greater honor for me to be here as an Indian actress.”

India has made a significant contribution to the film industry: Tamannaah Bhatia
Tamannaah Bhatia said, “India has for many years made a significant contribution to the film industry of the entire world. Now in its 75th year of independence, it is indeed a matter of pride to partner the Cannes Film Festival with India.” Tamannaah praised Deepika fiercely during this. She said, “The way Deepika is representing the country at Cannes. It is a matter of pride for everyone and I have always been a fan of Deepika’s work.”

We are culture, we are storytellers: Shekhar Kapur
During the inauguration of the India Pavilion, R Madhavan said, “I would like to thank the Minister of Information and Broadcasting, Shri Anurag Thakur, MIB_India, FICCI, and nfdcindia for doing exactly this work in such a short span of time, that is why we are here today. Huh.” Shekhar Kapur said, “We are the culture, we are the storytellers, we have to move forward with confidence.”

India was chosen as the ‘Country of Honour’ for the first time
This time Indian cinema is being celebrated at the prestigious Cannes Film Festival. India has been chosen as the ‘Country of Honour’ for the first time for Cannes. Deepika Padukone has been chosen as the jury member of the festival this year. Information and Broadcast Minister Anurag Thakur is leading the delegation from India as the Country of Honour. The delegation includes many people including AR Rahman, Pooja Hegde, Shekhar Kapur, Prasoon Joshi, Mame Khan and Ricky Cage.
