South Superstar Rajinikanth has surprised everyone by announcing his political party on 3 December in January. Its official announcement is scheduled on December 30. Prior to Rajinikanth, many Bollywood big stars have also tried their hand in politics. While some of them have kept their feet even today, some have left their political career as soon as they started.
Political career ends as soon as these stars begin
Amitabh BachchanBollywood megastar Amitabh Bachchan has been very close to the Gandhi family in the 80s. During this time Big B contested for the Lok Sabha seat from Allahabad and won the best. However, Amitabh opted out of politics forever after not being interested after some time. Since then, Big B has been away from politics.
Govinda- Govinda, who gained excellent popularity from 90’s films, took entry into politics in the year 2004. The actor joined the Congress party and not only contested for the Lok Sabha seat of Mumbai but also won. During politics, Govinda has been in the limelight for supporting false decisions, sometimes due to fake age certificates. Gradually, his interest waned and in 2008, he said goodbye to politics forever.
Dharmendra- Dharmendra, one of the most liked actors of the 80s, won during the Lok Sabha elections in Bikaner in 2004. Dharmendra had little interest in politics, which was clearly seen during his tenure. Shortly after, Dharmendra resigned and decided to follow the path of acting.
Line- Senior actress Rekha acquired the post of Rajya Sabha MP in the year 2012. Since then, the actress has been active in politics, although due to lack of interest in politics, there are only few occasions when Rekha appears in Rajya Sabha.
Urmila Matondkar Urmila Matondkar, who has appeared in many best films like Rangeela, entered politics in the year 2019. The actress contested the Lok Sabha elections on behalf of the Congress. In front of him was BJP’s Gopal Shetty, due to which the actress had to face defeat. A few days later, Urmila resigned from the Congress party and joined the Shiv Sena.

Raj Babbar- Actor Raj Babbar is a noted politician from UP. The actor is the Congress president of UP and a Rajya Sabha MP. The actor has been a two-time Rajya Sabha MP and three-time Lok Sabha MP.
Jaya Prada Jaya Prada, who is a popular name of politics, has recently left the socialist and joined BJP. The actress started her political career with Telugu Desam, the party of NT Rama Rao of South. In 1996, the actress was appointed as a Rajya Sabha MP for the first time. After a few years, the actress left South India and entered the politics of North India through the Samajwadi Party. The actress has been elected MP twice through this party.
Shatrughan Sinha- Shatrughan Sinha, who has been associated with BJP for 30 years, has now joined Congress Party. The actor was angry with the BJP for cutting the ticket due to which he decided to change the party. The actor had entered politics by contesting against Rajesh Khanna, although he had to face defeat in it. Later, the actor has been elected twice MP. Shatrughn has also been the cabinet minister of the Atal Bihari government in 2002.
Jaya Bachchan- Having given many blockbuster films, Jaya Bachchan is a known face of Indian politics. The Actress, who has been a frequent Rajya Sabha MP since 2004, is the leader of the Samajwadi Party. Jaya Bachchan has also been awarded the Padma Shri by the Government of India due to her remarkable works.
Apart from these stars, Prakash Raj has contested this Lok Sabha election from Bengaluru Central as Independent Candidate. Along with this, Paresh Rawal, Sunny Deol, Mithun Chakraborty, Shabana Azmi have also got a good hold in politics. Late actors Sunil Dutt and Vinod Khanna have also been well known faces of Indian politics.
