In the 15th match of the IPL 2021 season, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) defeated Kolkata Knight Riders (PBKS) by 18 runs in a thrilling match on Wednesday. Chennai, which ranked 7th in the points table last season, is their third consecutive win in the season and has topped the points table.
Rituraj Gaikwad and Faf du Plessis were the winning heroes of Chennai. Both added 115 runs for just 74 balls for the first wicket. Due to which CSK managed to reach 200 runs. After this, Deepak Chahar and Lungi Ngidi dominated the match in the first 6 overs, by covering half the team of Kolkata. 1. Russell-Cummins played a miraculous innings
Kolkata team, chasing a target of 21 runs, had lost 5 wickets for 31 runs. After that Andre Russell and Pat Cummins scored 120 runs off 56 balls, but could not win the team. Russell scored 54 off 22 balls and Cummins scored an unbeaten 66 off 34 balls. Sam Karan bolted Russell and brought relief to Chennai.
2. Top order of Kolkata completely failed
Kolkata had a poor start. The team lost one wicket in the very first over. Opener Shubman Gill returned to the pavilion without playing an account. He was dismissed by Deepak Chahar. Chahar then brought out KKR on the backfoot by dismissing Nitish Rana, ON Morgan and Sunil Narine in the power-play itself. Lungi Ngidi gave Kolkata the 5th blow in the power-play.
3. Chennai batsmen’s aggressive attitude
Chennai Super Kings scored 220 runs losing 3 wickets while batting first. Opener Rituraj Gaikwad scored his fourth in the IPL and Faf Duplessis placed 17th FIFTY. Duplessis scored 95 off 60 balls and Rituraj scored 64 off 42 balls. It was also their first fifty in the season. Moin Ali, who came in to bat at number three, scored 25 runs off 12 balls. Captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni came out to bat at number-4 for the first time in the season and scored 17 runs.
4. CSK played Narine-Chakraborty carefully
Chennai played Kolkata spin bowlers Varun Chakraborty and Sunil Naren Sambhalkar and never let it dominate. Both had to be content with just one wicket each. Chakraborty’s Chennai batsmen added 27 runs in 4 overs and Naren’s 34 in 4 overs. Chennai kept the runs maintained by targeting the overs of Kamlesh Nagerkoti and the famous Krishna.

After a good start, Chennai continued to take aggressive shots throughout the innings. In the power-play, middle overs and death overs, Chennai did not let their run rate fall. Chennai added 76 runs in the last 4 overs to take the team’s score to 220.
