Delhi Capitals co-owner Parth Jindal has said that Rishabh Pant will not keep wicket in the initial matches of IPL 2024. Pant has been away from cricket for 14 months. In the year 2022, he met with a car accident on 31st December. After which he is away from cricket.

While talking to ESPN, Jindal has said that Rishabh Pant will play from the opening match of Delhi Capitals in IPL 2024 and will also captain the team. He will not keep wicket in the first part of IPL.

Jindal further said that team director Sourav Ganguly and chief coach Ricky Ponting were sure about Pant playing in the IPL. Pant will play in IPL after getting fitness from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).
He said that Pant is batting. He is running. He has also started wicket keeping. There is every hope that he will be fit before IPL.
Pant is away from cricket from December 2022
Pant has been away from cricket since the Test series against Bangladesh in December 2022. Pant had an accident on December 31 while going from Delhi to Roorkee. After which he had three surgeries on the knee of his right leg. He is recovering at the National Cricket Academy. Pant also played in a practice match organized by the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru this week.

Pant posted a video while keeping wicket
Pant posted a video on his Instagram on Tuesday while keeping wicket and exercising. He also batted and fielded in the 20 over match on Wednesday. BCCI's medical team is keeping an eye on him. He is currently recovering under their care. It is expected that he will play in such matches before IPL. After getting approval from BCCI, he will join the camp of Delhi Capitals in Visapatnam.

South African player Anrich Nortje is expected to be fit before the IPL. Co-owner Jindal said that Nortje, who is out due to injury, may join the Visakhapatnam camp. Nortje played 10 matches for Delhi Capitals last year. After that he went home due to personal reasons. Nortje was retained by the franchise this year.
Nortje was injured during USA Major League Cricket. His back was fractured. After which he was out of the World Cup also. He did not even play in South African T-20. After which there was doubt about his playing in IPL.
Jindal said that he is bowling at 80 percent capacity. He will start bowling at 100 percent capacity from next week.

Jay Richardson will not play in the first part of IPL
Regarding Australian fast bowler Jhye Richardson, Jindal said that he is unlikely to be fit for the initial part of the tournament. He can play in some matches of IPL. We are in touch with them. Jay was also out of the BBL and the home series against West Indies. Richardson was signed by the Capitals in the mini auction in December for Rs 5 crore.

Harry Brook ready for role number 6
Jindal said that he is confident that Delhi Capitals will reach the play-offs. He said that the team will be balanced after Pant's return. The presence of Tristan Stubbs and Mitchell Marsh, David Warner and Harry Brook will strengthen the team. He said that Harry Brook will bat at number-6.
