A team of Mumbai Police has reached Aligarh for investigation against Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) alumnus leader Sharjeel Usmani. However, at the local level, no police officer is speaking in this matter. The team from Mumbai are scrutinizing Sharjeel’s crime record. Sharjeel, in his speech at the Elgar Parishad in Pune on 30 January, had used objectionable words for allegedly insulting Hindu deities. After this, cases were registered in Pune and Lucknow.
Sharjeel is a resident of Azamgarh
Sharjeel Usmani originally hails from the housing development colony of Iqra Ghulam Kapura in Azamgarh district. Sharjeel Usmani’s name was cropped up in provoking nuisance and violent incidents on 15 December 2019 during protests by CAA and NRC in Aligarh. Cases have been registered against Sharjeel in civil line police stations, including inciting students, spoiling the atmosphere of the city, causing uproar. He is currently out on bail. Sharjeel Usmani is also accused of calling JNU student leader Sharjeel Imam into the AMU. After the police report in the month of October, the Additional District Magistrate Nagar court has changed Sharjeel Usmani to district for six months. Since which it has been continuously running out.
Father said- son’s words were misinterpreted
Sharjeel’s father, Dr Tariq Mehmood Usmani, is a professor in the Geography Department at AMU. Therefore, the family lives in Aligarh in the Ashiana Green Society, Manjur Garhi. In a phone conversation, Sharjeel’s father said that the meaning of his saying was being taken in a wrong way. He also said that he was forbidden by his lawyer to talk to the media.
CO said – five cases are registered
Civil Lines Police Officer Anil Samania said that Sharjeel Usmani is an alumnus of AMU. He did his BA from here and now filled the MA form. But he has not been admitted. Recently, he has given a controversial statement in Maharashtra. The prosecution has been registered in Lucknow. He has five cases registered. His father is a professor at AMU and originally hails from Azamgarh.
