Al Nassr star Cristiano Ronaldo could face severe legal punishment for reportedly breaking a key Iranian law. As per multiple media outlets, Spanish news outlet MARCA has claimed that Ronaldo’s picture with Iranian painter Fatemeh Hamami has caught the attention of several Iranian lawyers who have accused the Al Nassr superstar of committing adultery in their country.
An Iranian publication ‘Sharq Emroz’ and ‘Rouydad24’, as reported by MARCA, has claimed that the former Real Madrid and Manchester United striker could face 99 lashes for reportedly committing adultery in Iran.
The MARCA article, however, claimed that Iran’s embassy in Madrid has stated that reports of Ronaldo facing severe consequences are absolutely baseless.
Cristiano Ronaldo visited the Iranian capital Tehran with Al Nassr to face Persepolis in the group stage of the Asian Champions League (ACL) in September. During his visit, Ronaldo met Fatemeh Hamami who is a big fan of the Portuguese football icon. Hamami decided to gift Ronaldo a portrait of him. To thank Hamami for this wonderful gesture, Ronaldo allegedly kissed the painter on the cheek. As per multiple reports, touching a married woman is equivalent to committing adultery, resulting in the aforementioned punishment, according to Iranian law.
Spanish outlet MARCA has claimed that Ronaldo’s sentence could be pardoned by a judge if he or she finds his acts not punishable. Ronaldo could also be given an exemption from punishment if the footballer is willing to show remorse. The Al Nassr star is not set to return to Iran in the ongoing phase of the competition but he could be scheduled to set foot on Iranian soil if Al Nassr can crack the knockout stage of the competition.
Cristiano Ronaldo has been in stellar form with Al Nassr this season. The Portuguese footballer won his first trophy with Al Nassr this year, beating Al Ittihad in the final of the Arab Club Champions Cup. He also became the top scorer of the tournament. This season, Ronaldo has been on a completely different level, having netted 10 goals in eight appearances in the Saudi Pro League for Al Nassr. The Portuguese will be eyeing to win more silverware at the Saudi club this season.
