1. Prem Singh Tamang became the Chief Minister of Sikkim: On June 10, Sikkim Krantikari Morcha (SKM) leader Prem Singh Tamang took oath as the Chief Minister of Sikkim. State Governor Laxman Acharya administered the oath to him and cabinet ministers at the Pawjor Stadium in the capital Gangtok.
Prem Singh Tamang was born on 5 February 1968.
- Prem Singh Tamang has been winning the Sikkim Assembly elections for five consecutive times since 1994.
- He served as a minister in the Sikkim Democratic Fund (SDF) government until 2009.
- In 2014, after not getting a ministerial post, Prem Singh formed the SKM party.
- SKM had won 31 out of 32 seats in the state.
- The opposition SDF got only one seat.
- SDF president and former CM Pawan Chamling lost both the seats.
- He contested from Tamang Rhenock and Soreng-Chakung assembly seats.
2. Narendra Modi became PM for the third consecutive time: On June 9, President Draupadi Murmu administered the oath to Narendra Modi as the Prime Minister of India for the third time in New Delhi. Along with PM Modi, 71 MPs also took oath as ministers.
- Narendra Modi took oath as Prime Minister for the third consecutive time at 7:15 pm on Sunday.
- He became the second PM to do so after former PM Jawaharlal Nehru.
- Apart from PM Modi, 60 ministers are from BJP and 11 other parties.
- These include 30 cabinet ministers, 5 ministers of independent charge and 36 ministers of state.
- This time 7 women have been included in the cabinet.
- The youngest TDP’s Ram Mohan Naidu (36 years) and the oldest Jitan Ram Manjhi (79 years) became cabinet ministers.
- 7 MPs including Modi, Rajnath Singh, Jitan Ram Manjhi, HD Kumaraswamy, Manohar Lal Khattar, Sarbananda Sonowal, Shivraj Singh Chauhan have previously been Chief Ministers, who are now ministers.
- 32 MPs have become ministers for the first time, including 5 from Bihar, 4 from Uttar Pradesh, 3 each from Madhya Pradesh-Maharashtra-Karnataka, 2 each from Karnataka-Gujarat-Kerala and 1 each from Punjab, Haryana, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, West Bengal, Jharkhand, Rajasthan, Delhi, Assam, Telangana.

3. Pooja Tomar became UFC champion: On June 8, India’s Pooja Tomar became the first Indian fighter to win the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC). In the US, Pooja defeated Brazil’s Rayano dos Santos in her debut fight.
Pooja Tomar is a resident of Budhana, Muzaffarnagar, Uttar Pradesh.
- Pooja won 30-27, 27-30 and 29-28 in the 52kg weight category.
- 30-year-old Pooja has become the first Indian mixed martial arts (MMA) player to win the UFC.
- Pooja Tomar is known as ‘Cyclone’ in the UFC.
- Pooja signed with the UFC in October 2023.
- He also represented the country in the World Wushu Championship.
- Pooja has been a five-time national champion in Wushu.
4. Carlos Alcaraz wins French Open: On June 9, Spanish star tennis player Carlos Alcaraz won the men’s singles title at the French Open 2024. Alcaraz defeated Germany’s Alexander Zverev 6-3, 2-6, 5-7, 6-1, 6-2.
21-year-old Carlos Alcaraz has won the first French Open of his career.
- Carlos Alcaraz won his third Grand Slam title.
- Earlier, he has won the US Open in 2022 and the Wimbledon title in 2023.
- With his French Open win, Alcaraz earned prize money of $26,08,465 (approximately Rs 21.78 crores).
- Alcaraz has won 11 Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) Tour events.
- He became the youngest player to win all three Grand Slam titles.

5. Sub-Lieutenant Anamika becomes first woman helicopter pilot: On June 8, a passing out parade was held at INS Rajali in Arakkonam, Tamil Nadu. In this, Sub Lieutenant Anamika B Rajeev was awarded the graduation degree of helicopter pilot.
Vice Admiral Rajesh Pendhakar, Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Eastern Naval Command, presented the graduation degree to Anamika B Rajeev.
- Anamika has become the first female helicopter pilot of the Navy.
- Rajesh Pendhakar awarded ‘Golden Wings’ to 24 officers of Basic Helicopter Conversion Course (BHCC).
- Anamika B Rajeev was also awarded the ‘Golden Wings’.
- Anamika will get permission to fly helicopters like Sea Kings, AHL Dhruv, Chetak and MH-60R Seahawks.
- These pilots received their degrees after 22 weeks of training in the Naval Air Squadron.
- The pilots will be posted in various front-line operating units of the Navy.

6. Israel extended the ban on Al Jazeera: On 9 June, Israel extended the ban on Qatar’s media house Al Jazeera for 45 days. The Israeli government had banned Al Jazeera on 5 May due to displeasure with its reporting on the Hamas war.

- Israel’s Communications Ministry said Al Jazeera’s telecasting and websites would remain banned on cable and satellite companies.
- The Israeli government’s cabinet cited threats from Al Jazeera’s telecasting.

- Israeli police raided the office of Al Jazeera and confiscated many items, including cameras.
- Al Jazeera was launched on 15 November 2006, with its headquarters in Doha, Qatar.

History of June 10: On this day in 1986, India won a Test match for the first time at Lord’s Cricket Ground in England. India defeated England by 5 wickets. Indian captain Kapil Dev gave Team India a historic victory by hitting a six on the last ball of the match.
