DEFENSE
1. Indian Army gets Nagastra-1: On June 14, the Indian Army received the first indigenous loitering munition, Nagastra-1. It has been manufactured by Economics Explosives Limited (EEL) of Solar Industries, Nagpur. Nagastra-1 is capable of attacking by entering the enemy’s house.
- Nagastra-1 has a man-in-loop range of 15 km and an autonomous mode range of 30 km.
- The suicide drone is operated at an altitude of 1,200 metres.
- It weighs 12 kg and can carry a 2 kg warhead.
- This drone can stay in the air for up to 60 minutes in one flight.
- It will be used to attack enemy training camps, bases and launch pads.
- The Indian Army placed an order for 480 drones from EEL under emergency procurement powers.
- Of these, 120 drones have been delivered in the first consignment.
BUSINESS
2. Wholesale inflation at 15-month high: The National Statistical Office released the wholesale inflation data on June 14. In May 2024, wholesale inflation has risen to a 15-month high.
- Wholesale inflation rose to 2.61% in May.
- In February 2023, the wholesale inflation rate was 3.85%.
- Inflation stood at 1.26% in April 2024, which was a 13-month high.
- Food inflation rate increased from 5.52% to 7.40% as compared to April.
- The inflation rate of daily use items increased from 5.01% to 7.20%.
- Wholesale inflation rate of fuel and power declined from 1.38% to 1.35%.
- The wholesale inflation rate of manufacturing products increased from -0.42% to 0.78%.
APPOINTMENT
3. Ajit Doval became NSA for the third time: On June 13, the central government appointed Ajit Doval as the National Security Advisor (NSA). IPS officer Ajit Doval has been appointed NSA for the third consecutive time.
Ajit Doval was born on 20 January 1945 in Pauri Garhwal, Uttarakhand.
- Ajit Doval became NSA for the first time on 31 May 2014.
- After this, in 2019, Doval’s tenure was extended for five years.
- Ajit Doval is a 1968 batch IPS officer.
- He joined the Intelligence Bureau (IB) in 1972.
- Doval was awarded the Kirti Chakra for gallantry in 1988.
- He is the youngest recipient of the Indian Police Medal.
- The post of NSA was established in the country in 1998.
- Brajesh Mishra was made the first NSA in Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s government.
4. PK Mishra became the Principal Secretary of PM Modi: On June 13, the Cabinet Selection Committee extended the tenure of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Principal Secretary Pramod Kumar Mishra till further orders. He first became PM Modi’s Chief Secretary in 2014.
PK Mishra will be given the status of Cabinet Minister during his tenure.
- PK Mishra is a 1972 batch IAS officer of Gujarat cadre.
- PK Mishra’s tenure was extended in 2019.
- PK Mishra has also served as Chief Secretary to Narendra Modi from 2001-04, when he was the Chief Minister of Gujarat.
- He has also served as Additional Principal Secretary to the PM.
- In 2019 he was awarded the Sasakawa Prize for Disaster Risk Reduction.
- PK Mishra was born on 11 August 1948 in Sambalpur, Odisha.

5. Free sanitary napkins to girl students of class 10th and 12th Pad and restroom facilities: On June 13, the central government issued instructions to provide free sanitary pads to girl students of 10th and 12th board exams. Now, girl students will get free sanitary pads and restroom breaks in board exams.
Free sanitary pads will be easily available at all 10th and 12th board exam centres.
- Restrooms will be constructed at all examination centres to meet the hygiene management needs during periods.
- Girl students face problems regarding hygiene management in class during their periods.
- Regarding this, the Education Ministry has issued an advisory to all schools, Central Board of Secondary Education, Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan, and Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti.
- Under this advisory, awareness programs will be started across the country regarding periods and hygiene management.

6. Shruti Vora becomes first Indian to win 3 Star GP: On June 13, the Equestrian Federation of India (EFI) announced Shruti Vora’s victory in the 3 Star Grand Prix. Shruti has become the first Indian equestrian to win a Grand Prix event.
Shruti has represented India in the 2014 and 2022 Asian Games.
- Shruti scored 67.761 points at the CDI-3 event held in Lipica, Slovenia.
- Moldova’s Tatiana Antonenko finished second with 66.522 points.
- Austria’s Julian Gerrit finished third with 66.087 points.
- Shruti also represented India in the Dressage World Championship 2010.
- The CDI-3 competition was held from 6–9 June in Lipica, Slovenia.

7. Ratlam’s CM Rise School included in the list of world’s top schools: On June 13, the prestigious American institute T4 Education released the list of World’s Best Schools 2024. CM Rise Vinoba School in Ratlam city of Madhya Pradesh secured fourth place among the top 10 schools at the international level.

History of June 14: On this day in 1868, scientist Karl Landsteiner, who discovered blood groups, was born. Blood Donor Day is celebrated every year on 14 June since 2004 in honour of Landsteiner. Karl was a famous immunologist, and it was only after his discovery that blood transfusion from one person to another has become possible.
For this discovery of Karl Landsteiner, he was awarded the Nobel Prize for Medicine in 1930.
