IFS officer Vinay Mohan Kwatra has been appointed as India’s new ambassador to the US. He will take up his post soon. Earlier, Vinay Kwatra was India’s foreign secretary. During this time, he worked to strongly present India’s stand on many international issues.

  • He was sent as ambassador to France until February 2020.

2. Technical services halted due to fault in Microsoft server:
Due to a problem in Microsoft’s server, technical services have come to a standstill on Friday, July 19. Work is not being done in IT companies, airlines, medical services companies and banks in more than 20 countries including America, Britain, Germany. Work has also stopped on TV channels, radio, train stations.

  • Microsoft said that the problem started at 5:56 pm in the cloud computing platform and due to this the systems connected to it were affected.

RPF rescued 84,119 children in the last 7 years under Operation Little Angel: Railway Protection Force (RPF) has rescued 84,119 children from danger or in danger at stations and trains in the last 7 years under ‘Operation Nanhe Farishte’. Most of the rescued children had run away from their homes for various reasons. These include both boys and girls. This figure is from the year 2018 to May 2024.

  • RPF had launched Operation Nanhe Farishte in 2018 to take care of children found in danger or at risk within the railway station premises.
  • It focuses on rescuing children who have run away from home, been abandoned by their families, are poor, disabled, or are victims of kidnapping.
  • RPF rescues these children and hands them over to the District Child Welfare Committee. Then the District Child Welfare Committee finds the parents of these children and hands over the child to them.
  • The highest number of children rescued in the last 7 years was in 2022, when 17,756 children were rescued.
  • RPF has rescued 17,112 children in 2018, 15,932 children in 2019, 5,011 children in 2020, 11,907 children in 2021, 17,756 children in 2022, 11,794 children in 2023 and 4,607 children in the first five months of 2024.
  • The Railway Protection Force was established by the Government of India in 1954.
  • The creation of RPF was recommended by the High Power Committee headed by the then Intelligence Bureau Director B N Malik.

The 9th edition of the Women’s Cricket Asia Cup will begin today i.e. 19th July. The opening match will be between Nepal and the United Arab Emirates women’s team.
