1. Country’s budget for 2024-25 is Rs 48.21 lakh crore: On July 23, Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman presented the country’s budget. She became the first woman finance minister of the country to present the budget for the 7th time. The country’s budget for 2024-25 is Rs 48.21 lakh crore.

  • The government gave Rs 1.52 lakh crore for agriculture and related sectors.
  • The central government released a budget of Rs 1.48 lakh crore for education.

  • The central government will promote Nalanda as a tourist destination, including the Nalanda-Rajgir corridor in Bihar.

  • A special package of Rs 15,000 crore was announced for Andhra Pradesh.
  • Visakhapatnam-Chennai-Orvakal-Hyderabad Industrial Corridor will be established.
  • Along with this, a Hyderabad-Bengaluru Industrial Corridor will also be built.
  • Special Backward Area Fund also announced for Rayalaseema, Prakasam and North Andhra Pradesh districts.

2. Sri Lanka has the highest share in the budget and Maldives has the lowest share: On July 23, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman presented the budget in the Modi 3.0 government. In this, Rs 22 thousand 154 crore has been given to the Ministry of External Affairs. In the budget of the Ministry of External Affairs, funds were allocated for economic assistance to India’s neighboring and friendly countries under the ‘Neighbors First Policy’ and ‘Sagar Mission’.

  • These include 10 countries including Bhutan, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and Maldives.
  • Apart from this, there is also provision for ad for many African, Latin American and Euro-Asian countries.
  • The highest package of Rs 2,068 crore was kept for Bhutan.
  • Aid to Sri Lanka was increased more than 4 times from Rs 60 crore to Rs 245 crore.
  • Despite the formation of pro-China KP Oli’s government in Nepal, economic aid for the country was increased from Rs 650 crore to Rs 700 crore.
  • The biggest cut in the budget was made in the pro-China Maldives package.
  • The economic aid for Maldives was increased from Rs 183 crore to Rs 770 crore in 2023, this year it was increased to Rs 400 crore.
  • The Indian government will spend a total of Rs 4,773 crore to help other countries.

3. H125 helicopters to be manufactured in India: On July 23, Tata Advanced Systems Limited (TASL) and Airbus Helicopters signed an agreement for H125 helicopters. A Final Assembly Line (FAL) will be set up to manufacture these helicopters in India.

  • Delivery of Made in India H125 helicopters will begin in 2026.
  • The plan to set up FAL was announced on January 26 by Airbus CEO Guillaume Faury and Tata Sons chairman N Chandrasekaran.
  • The H125 is the world’s best-selling single-engine helicopter.
  • This is the only helicopter in the world that has landed on Mount Everest.
  • This helicopter is manufactured by Aerospatiale and Eurocopter in France.

4. Abhinav Bindra to receive Olympic Order: On July 22, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) announced that Indian shooter Abhinav Bindra will be awarded the Olympic Order. Bindra will be given this honor on August 10 during the 142nd IOC session in Paris. Earlier, former Indian Prime Minister Indira Gandhi has been given this award.

  • In 2014, he was appointed President of the ISSF.
  • The Olympic Order is the IOC’s highest honour, awarded for significant contributions to the Olympic movement.
  • Since 2018, Bindra has been a member of the IOC Athletes’ Commission.
