1. Names of two buildings of Rashtrapati Bhavan changed: On July 25, the President’s Secretariat issued a statement and renamed the Darbar Hall as ‘Ganatantra Mandap’. Ashok Hall has also been renamed as ‘Ashok Mandap’.
- National Awards are given in the Darbar Hall of Rashtrapati Bhavan.
- It is located just below the central dome of Rashtrapati Bhavan and can be accessed from all three sides.
- The Durbar Hall was earlier known as the Throne Room.
- It was here that Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru took oath as the first Prime Minister of independent India on 15 August 1947.
- Ashok Hall was originally known as a ballroom.
- Its floor is made of wood and its ceilings are painted.
- Rashtrapati Bhavan was inaugurated on 6 April 1929 by Lord Irwin, the Viceroy and Governor General of India.
APPOINTMENT
2. HGS Dhaliwal becomes DGP of Andaman and Nicobar: On 25 July, the Home Ministry appointed Hargobind Singh Dhaliwal as the new Deputy General of Police (DGP) of Andaman and Nicobar Islands. He has been appointed in place of DGP Devesh Chandra Srivastava.
HGS Dhaliwal is a 1997 batch IPS officer.
- Earlier, Dhaliwal was Special Commissioner of Police in New Delhi.
- In 2022, he was appointed Chief of Delhi Anti Terror Unit Special Cell.
- In a career spanning 27 years, he served in various positions in Arunachal Pradesh, Goa, Delhi and Mizoram.
- Dhaliwal was awarded the Police Medal for Distinguished Service.
- He has also received the President’s Police Medal for Distinguished Service.
3. Mayank Joshi becomes High Commissioner of Bahamas Commonwealth: On 24 July, the Ministry of External Affairs appointed Mayank Joshi as the next High Commissioner of India to the Commonwealth of the Bahamas. He will be based in Kingston during his tenure.
Mayank Joshi is a 2003 batch Indian Foreign Service (IFS) officer.
- Mayank Joshi was appointed in place of Masakui Rungsang.
- Mayank was currently the High Commissioner of India to Jamaica.
- She was appointed High Commissioner to Jamaica on 29 August 2023.
- He has served as Deputy Chief of Mission at the Indian Embassy in Tokyo in 2020.

4. India gets to host Paragliding World Cup: On July 24, Himachal Pradesh CM Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu announced that the World Paragliding Championship 2024 will be held in Himachal Pradesh. He also launched the official website of the Paragliding World Cup 2024 in Shimla.

- The Paragliding Championship will be organised between 2nd and 9th November at Beed-Billing in Kangra district of Himachal.
- The Fédération Aéronautique Internationale (FAI) has classified it as a Category 2 event.
- Participants from 40 to 50 countries will take part in this event.
- So far, 81 participants from 27 countries have registered.
- Only 130 participants will get a chance to fly in this World Cup, for which world and national rankings will be the basis.
- In the World Cup, the participants will be given the task of flying 100 to 200 kilometres daily from Beed Billing under cross country.
- Himachal Paragliding Festival will also be celebrated at Beed-Billing during this event.
- To introduce the Himachali culture, Sanskrit evenings will also be organised every evening during the World Cup.
- Two pre-World Cups have been held in Beed Billing in 2023.

5. Nita Ambani became IOC member for the second time: On July 24, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) re-elected Nita Ambani as a member. A total of 93 voters cast their votes for her, meaning she was elected with 100% votes.
Nita Ambani was elected as a member of the IOC for the first time at the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympic Games.
- Under the leadership of Nita Ambani, India got the hosting of IOC annual meeting after 40 years.
- It was organized in 2023 at Jio World Centre, Mumbai.
- It was under the leadership of Nita Ambani that India House was built in the Olympics for the first time.
- Nita Ambani is the chairperson of Dhirubhai Ambani International School.
- He is also a board member of the country’s largest company, Reliance Industries.
- Nita Ambani was born on 1 November 1963 in Mumbai.
