1. Om Prakash Mathur became the Governor of Sikkim: On 31 July, Om Prakash Mathur took oath as the Governor of Sikkim. Chief Justice of Sikkim High Court Vishwanath Somdar administered the oath of office to him.

- Om Prakash Mathur was born on 2 January 1952 in Pali, Rajasthan.
- Mathur obtained a BA degree from Rajasthan University.
- After becoming a member of the BJP in 1988, he held various positions in the party.
- He was the state president of Rajasthan BJP from 7 January 2008 to 13 July 2009.
- The party had also made him in-charge of the states of Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh and Chhattisgarh.
- Mathur also held the posts of National Secretary, National General Secretary and National Vice President for a long time in the central organization.
- He reached the Rajya Sabha as an MP for the first time from 2008 to 2014.
- He was a Rajya Sabha MP for the second time from 5 July 2016 to 4 July 2022.
- Gulab Chand Kataria sworn in as new Governor of Punjab, he will also be the Administrator of Chandigarh.
- Santosh Gangwar also took charge as the Governor of Jharkhand.
2. Sadhana Saxena became the first woman DG of Army Medical Service: On July 31, Lieutenant General Sadhana Saxena has been appointed as the Director General of Army Medical Service. Sadhana will take charge on August 1. As soon as she takes charge, she will become the first woman to work on this post.
After being promoted to the post of Air Marshal in the Air Force in October 2023, Sadhana was made the DG of Hospital Services (Armed Forces).
- She was also the first woman officer to be appointed to the post of DG.
- Sadhana is the second woman medical officer of the Air Force to reach the rank of Air Marshal.
- Earlier, Sadhana was promotional transferred from Air Force Training Command Bengaluru Headquarters to Delhi.
- Her husband KP Nair retired from the post of DG of Inspection and Flight Safety in 2015.
- In this way, Sadhana and KP Nair are the first couple in the country to reach the Air Marshal rank.
- He has done post graduation in Family Medicine.
- Sadhana participated in the training program of Delhi AIIMS for 2 years.
- He has studied chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear warfare and military medical ethics in Switzerland.

3. Preeti Sudan appointed UPSC chairperson: On July 30, the Central Government appointed Preeti Sudan as the Chairman of the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC). Sudan has replaced Manoj Soni, who resigned from the post on July 20.
Preeti Sudan, a 1983 batch IAS officer, is the former Union Health Secretary.
- Sudan, an Andhra Pradesh cadre officer, has also served as Secretary of the Ministry of Women and Child Development, Ministry of Defence and Department of Public Distribution.
- He is known for his significant contributions to the major Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao and Ayushman Bharat missions.
- Apart from this, credit for making National Medical Commission, Allied Health Professional Commission and law on ban on e-cigarettes also goes to him.
- He has also served as a member of the WHO Independent Panel for the Framework Convention on Tobacco Control.
- Sudan has worked as a consultant with the World Bank.
- She holds an MPhil in Economics and an MSc in Social Policy and Planning from the London School of Economics (LSE).
4. Mridu Pawan Das becomes High Commissioner to Rwanda: On 30 July, the Central Government appointed Mridu Pawan Das as the next High Commissioner of India to Rwanda. Das has been appointed in place of Nilratan Mridha, who has been posted in Rwanda since 2021.
Mridu Pawan Das is a 2004 batch IFS officer.
- Mridu Pawan Das is currently serving as Joint Secretary in the Ministry of External Affairs.
- In 2015 he was appointed as Deputy Secretary of Bangladesh in New Delhi.
- He was appointed High Commissioner to Bangladesh in July 2012.
- Mridu Pawan Das has also worked as High Commissioner in Iran.
- He has obtained B.Tech degree from NIT Kurukshetra.

5. Masoud Pazshkian took oath as President in Iran: On July 30, Masoud Pazashkian was sworn in as the 9th President of Iran. Leaders from many countries including India and Pakistan attended the ceremony. India was led by Union Minister Nitin Gadkari.
Before becoming President, Masoud Pazshkian was an MP from Tabriz city of Iran and the country’s Health Minister.
- Pazshkian defeated hardline leader Saeed Jalili by 3 million votes in the presidential election held on July 5.
- Presidential elections were announced in the country after the death of Iranian President Ibrahim Raisi in a helicopter crash on May 19.
- Pazshkian came in first with 42.5% of the votes, and Jalili came in second with 38.8%.
- Pazshkian first became an MP from Tabriz in 2006.
- In 2011, he registered to contest for the presidency.
- In 2012, a ban was imposed on other candidates, including Pazshkian, to make Raisi the president.

History of July 31: On this day in 1995, for the first time two people spoke on a mobile phone in India. West Bengal Chief Minister Jyoti Basu called Telecom Minister Sukhram in Delhi from Writers Building in Kolkata. Nokia and Telstra together completed the work of mobile network in Calcutta in July 1995. Today India is the second largest telecom market in the world.
Jyoti Basu wanted Calcutta to become the first city in the country to have a mobile network.
