Delhi: Upset Over Being Ignored, Ex-Boyfriend Stabs Woman 13 Times in Lado Sarai – News18

A 23-year-old woman was allegedly stabbed multiple times by her ex-boyfriend in south Delhi’s Lado Sarai area on Thursday morning. Police caught the accused on the spot.

The victim, police said, was avoiding the 27-year-old accused.

The woman received about 13 stab injuries on her face, fingers and thighs, however doctors have said that she is currently out of danger and under treatment

A purported video, which is making rounds on social media shows a woman inside a cab with blood all over her upper body. In the video, she can be heard pleading passersby for help.

The driver of the cab — who is said to have caught the accused with help from others — can also be heard speaking, he said that he came for a pick up. Both the accused and the woman were together when they sat inside the car, however the 27-year-old later attacked the woman.

The authenticity of the video could not be independently verified by News18.

Police received a PCR call from Lado Sarai’s Firni Road about a woman’s stabbing at 6:20 am. A police team then reached the spot where the victim — a resident of Lado Sarai — was found. Chandan Chowdhary, Deputy Commissioner of Police (South) said that upon inquiry, it was revealed that the accused and the woman were in a relationship for the last two years.

How Did The Attack Unfold?

The accused talked to the woman around 8 am on Wednesday, when she told him that she was in office. According to her statement to the police, the victim used to leave her house around 6-6:30 am every day. As she had blocked her ex-boyfriend’s number, he came around her house to meet her in the early hours (5:30 am) of Thursday, police said.

The DCP said that recently, the girl had been ignoring the accused, which is why he came to Lado Sarai in the morning to see her, however when she sat in the cab while talking to him, the accused attack her with a knife. He was caught by the cab driver, police said.

The accused has said that he met with the woman about 10 days ago and for the last month there was a change in her behaviour towards him, police said.

The accused tried to talk to the girl, but she refused and even slapped him four-five times. Later, they sat in the cab and started arguing again, after which in a fit of rage he stabbed her, police officials said. The accused had brought the knife along with him from home and had kept it in his pant pocket, they added.

Story Before The Attack

According to police, the two had met two-three years ago when they were working in the same office in Lajpat Nagar.

A case under section 307 (attempt to murder) of the IPC has been registered and the accused, identified as Gaurav Pal — a resident of Ghaziabad in UP, working in a private company at Haryana’s Gurugram — has been apprehended, the police official said.

The woman on October 10 had made a PCR call saying that she was being harassed by Pal. Later it was found that the matter was related to borrowed money, police said. She, however, did not want any action on that day, they said.

Victim’s Mother Demands Strict Punishment for Accused

According to the victim’s mother, the woman had an interview on Thursday and was leaving to go there when the incident took place.

“My daughter had an interview and she booked a cab for Lajpat Nagar at around 6.30 am. The accused was standing near our house and when she came out, he started chasing her. He told my daughter that he wants to talk to her,” the mother said.

She added that, “She told him that she was getting late for office and did not want to talk to him but when my daughter sat inside the cab, he also entered the vehicle, locked the doors from inside and attacked her.”

The mother also said that he had been pestering her daughter for the last two years. He used to tell her that he wanted to marry her, but the victim was not ready for it.

“My daughter blocked him, but he used to call her from unknown numbers and also threaten her that if she does not marry him, then he will kill her. My daughter met him in the office where she used to work,” she said. However, the woman did not love him and instead wanted to support her family, since her father was no more, the mother added.

“He asked her for a court marriage, but my daughter did not agree to it. I want the accused to get strict punishment for his act,” she said.

Previous Incident of Stabbing

In May, a 16-year-old girl was stabbed over 20 times and bludgeoned to death by a youth in northwest Delhi’s Shahbad Dairy area. The 20-year-old accused, Sahil, was arrested from Uttar Pradesh’s Bulandshahr.

He and the victim were in a “relationship” but had a quarrel. The victim had gone shopping when she was accosted by the accused in the densely populated neighbourhood.
