From Mulayam Singh’s time, bookers were getting flat rates on electricity bills. The Yogi government has spoken of scrapping the old plan to make a new plan.
- Before Dussehra, weavers had gone on strike for several days with their demands.
- Priyanka Gandhi has also written a letter to CM Yogi regarding this issue.
The movement of the weavers is again intensifying regarding the flat rate of electricity. Dozens of weavers, under the banner of the common stage, arrived to perform at Shastri Ghat on Tuesday. The weavers also carried anti-government slogans with placards in their hands. He says that this movement will be further intensified. Millions of weavers from all over Uttar Pradesh will again hit the streets.
Recently, the weavers movement got the support of Congress.
Rehman Ansari, associated with the weavers common platform, said that the Yogi government had planned to abolish the flat rate in January 2020 itself. But the government came on the backfoot due to the agitation of various organizations and weavers. In September 2020, it was decided in a meeting in Lucknow that in October, a new plan for electricity rate will come. So far nothing has come and the people of the electricity department are also cutting the power of the weavers over the bill.
Weaver leader Okas Ansari said that since 2006 the weaver used to pay up to Rs 75 for a powerloom. The Yogi government will recover around Rs 1,500 by eliminating the flat rate. How will the poor weaver be able to fill this bill?
