Former selector MSK Prasad has given a big reaction to Umran Malik, who has been making headlines by bowling at 150 kmph continuously in IPL. MSK Prasad believes that there should be no rush to include Umran in the Indian team. Prasad said- Umran should first play some domestic and India-A matches before international cricket. If he is not able to perform well by going to the big level immediately, then his morale can be broken.
Umran Malik is currently playing for Sunrisers Hyderabad in IPL and has taken 15 wickets in 10 matches for his team. Recently, Umran also bowled the fastest ball of the season at a speed of 157 kmph. Former players like Harbhajan Singh and Sunil Gavaskar are constantly advocating for Umran’s inclusion in the India team after the IPL.
No hurry to include Umran in Indian team: Prasad
Former selector MSK Prasad in protest against giving break to Umran Malik directly in Team India
Talking to a news website about Malik, Prasad said- I know that it is never easy to bowl continuously at the speed of 150. But if you throw Umran directly into international cricket without following the systematic process and he is not able to perform well there, then his spirits can be broken. So Umran should first play at least one full domestic season and a few matches for India A. Don’t be in a hurry to include him in the Indian team.
MSK Prasad gave the example of Mohammad Siraj
Emphasizing on the need for Umran Malik to play domestic cricket, Prasad cited the example of Mohammad Siraj, who took 5 wickets in Team India’s Gabba Test victory. He said that domestic games and India-A tour help you become a mature bowler. Mohammad Siraj was able to do well on his very first Test tour of Australia because he had the experience of playing Tests for India A and taking close to 50 wickets. Same system should be followed with Umran only then he will be able to play long for India.
Credit to Sunrisers Hyderabad for grooming Umran: MSK Prasad
Praising Sunrisers Hyderabad, Prasad said that very few players in India can bowl at 150 kmph. The way Sunrisers Hyderabad has backed Umran is commendable.
