The content head of OTT platform Amazon Prime Video, Aparna Purohit has received a setback from the Allahabad High Court. In the ongoing investigation against the web series ‘Tandava’, his anticipatory bail petition has been rejected. An FIR was lodged against the web series, Purohit and others in Hazratganj Kotwali, Lucknow. He has been accused of insulting Hindu deities.

‘False depiction of gods and goddesses cannot be justified’
Justice Siddharth said in his judgment that wrong depiction of deities cannot be justified. He cited the example of foreigners and said that the filmmakers there avoid avoiding misrepresenting Hazrat Mohammed or Jesus Christ. While Hindi filmmakers are constantly misrepresenting Hindu deities.

Why did the justice tell the anticipatory bail
Justice dismissed the anticipatory bail plea, saying that the first condition for this is to cooperate in the investigation. While the petitioners are not cooperating in the investigation despite getting a concession from the second bench in this case. The behavior of the petitioner clearly shows that she does not want to respect the law.

Justice Siddharth, meanwhile, referred to the arrest of standup comedian Munawar Farooqui and said, “Such people shamelessly exploit the country’s liberal and tolerant tradition as a means of earning money to the gods of the majority community’s religion.” According to Justice Siddharth, such people are not entitled to protection from arrest.

The petitioner had said – the series is fictitious
The petitioner claimed that the story of his series is fictitious and its purpose is not to hurt anyone’s feelings. In response, the counsel for the state government cited 10 FIRs and 4 criminal complaints, saying that this is evidence that people have been affected by the series.

FIR was registered on 18 January
On January 18, FIR was lodged in Hazratganj Kotwali, Lucknow on the Tahrir of Inspector Amarnath Verma. In this, Aparna Purohit, ‘Tandava’ director Ali Abbas Zafar, producer Himanshu Krishna Mehra, writer Gaurav Solanki and another person were charged under sections like scholastic and unrest. Purohit reached Kotwali and recorded his statement. The police had asked her 100 questions, but she could answer only 12. In response to the remaining questions, he does not know, ask the director as he had given the answers.

The web series was released in January
There was an FIR against the series in Lucknow as well as in Noida and Shahjahanpur. Saif Ali Khan, Mohammed Zeeshan Ayub and Dimple Kapadia starrer This web series was released on Amazon Prime Video in January. Several scenes in the series were accused of insulting Hindu gods and goddesses, showing a wrong image of the police and messing up the dignity of a constitutional post like the Prime Minister.
