Novak Djokovic, the world’s number-1 men’s tennis player, has created history. He defeated 13-time champion Rafael Nadal 3-6, 6-3, 7-6, 6-2 in the semi-finals of the French Open. Djokovic has become the first player in the world to beat Nadal in the semi-finals at Roland Garros. Djokovic will now face world number-5 Tsitsipas of Greece in the final.

In this match that lasted 4 hours and 11 minutes, Nadal easily won the first set 6-3. Djokovic then returned to the match after winning the second set. The third set reached a tie breaker and Djokovic won 7-6. Djokovic played a brilliant game in the fourth set and Nadal defeated Nadal 6-2 to reach the final.

With this, he also broke Nadal’s dream of winning 21 Grand Slams. Djokovic also halted Nadal’s 35-match winning streak. Djokovic of Serbia has also become the first player in the world to beat Nadal more than once at the French Open. With this, Djokovic also avenged his loss in the French Open final last year.

A total of 58 matches have taken place between the two till now. Out of this, Djokovic has won 30 and Nadal has won 28 matches. The two have come face to face 17 times in Grand Slam tournaments. Nadal has the lead in this. This Spanish player has won 10 out of 17 matches. Whereas, Djokovic could win only 7 matches.

Talking about the clay court, out of the total 27 matches between Nadal and Djokovic, Nadal has won 19 and Djokovic has won 8 matches. The two players last met in May in the final of the ATP Masters 1000 Rome, which was a clay court. Nadal won this match 7-5, 1-6, 6-3.

Nadal has won 20 Grand Slams so far. He is on top of this case with Roger Federer. Nadal has 13 French Open titles to his name. Apart from this, he has won the US Open 4 times, Wimbledon 2 times and the Australian Open title once. Whereas, Djokovic won only 1 French Open title in his career in 2016. Apart from this, he has won 18 Grand Slam titles including 9 Australian Open titles, 5 Wimbledon titles and 3 US Open titles.

Djokovic will face Tsitsipas in the final of the French Open 2021. Tsitsipas defeated Germany’s Alexander Zverev 6-3, 6-3, 4-6, 4-6, 6-3 in the semi-final match. With this victory, Tsitsipas became the first player from Greece to reach the final of any Grand Slam.
