Mrs Ambani heaped special praise on double Olympic medallist Bhaker, who banished ghosts of Tokyo Olympics by scripting history as she became the first Indian woman to claim two medals in a single edition of the Olympic games.

IOC Member and Chairperson of Reliance Foundation Mrs Nita Ambani led the felicitation ceremony at the Indian House in Paris on Tuesday in an event to commemorate the efforts of the Indian athletes at the Paris Olympics 2024.

Mrs Ambani congratulated the athletes who represented the tricolour on the international stage at the quadrennial event in France and presented them with a sash to commemorate their efforts and achievements.

Mrs Ambani heaped special praise on double Olympic medallist Manu Bhaker, who scripted history by becoming the first Indian woman to claim two medals in a single edition of the Olympic games.

Bhaker missed out on a medal at the previous edition of the Olympics in Tokyo due to a pistol malfunction but came back strong in Paris to do the medal double.

Ambani alluded to the same and expressed pride and joy with the young shooter stating, “After the Tokyo games, Manu said that she followed the wisdom of our ancient scripture The Bhagwat Geeta that teaches us ‘Do your best and leave the rest to God.’ And that’s what she did. Three years later, at the games, she changed not just her own but also the destiny of her nation.”

Bhaker opened the Indian medal tally in France as she clinched the bronze medal in the women’s 10m Air Pistol event to claim her first Olympic medal, before doubling her tally alongside Sarabjot Singh by finishing the 10m Mixed Team Air Pistol event in third.

She nearly tripled her own tally, but missed out on a third medal in Paris as she finished fourth in the 25m Air Pistol event.

Swapnil Kusale added India’s third medal at the Summer Games as he finished the Men’s 50m Rifle Shooting 3 position event with a bronze medal, the first time ever an India has finished on the podium in the event.
