Tech billionaire Elon Musk on Saturday said he “fully” endorses Donald Trump after the Republican presidential candidate was rushed bleeding from the stage of a rally in Pennsylvania after an apparent shooting.

“I fully endorse President Trump and hope for his rapid recovery,” Musk wrote on X, which he owns along with carmaker Tesla, as he shared a video of Trump pumping his fist while being escorted away by Secret Service officials.

The US Secret Service has just issued a statement, saying the attacker fired multiple rounds towards the stage “from an elevated position outside of the rally venue”.

They killed one person in the audience and two others are critically injured, the statement says. Agents killed the attacker at the scene.

The statement in full: “During former President Trump’s campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, on the evening of 13 July at approximately 6:15pm, a suspected shooter fired multiple shots toward the stage from an elevated position outside of the rally venue.

“US Secret Service personnel neutralised the shooter, who is now deceased. US Secret Service quickly responded with protective measures and former President Trump is safe. One spectator was killed, and two spectators were critically injured. This incident is currently under investigation. and the Secret Service has notified the FBI.”

US President Joe Biden led the condemnation after his election rival Donald Trump was wounded in a shooting incident at a rally in Pennsylvania Saturday that also reportedly killed at least one bystander.

Political leaders on both sides of the aisle slammed the violence minutes after the Republican candidate was rushed off stage by the Secret Service with blood running down his face.

“There’s no place in America for this kind of violence. It’s sick. It’s sick. It’s one of the reasons why we have to unite this country… We cannot be like this, we cannot condone this,” Biden told reporters in an emergency briefing at Rehoboth Beach in Delaware.

“Butler County District Attorney Richard Goldinger said two people are dead, including an apparent shooter,” The Washington Post reported.

ABC News cited Goldinger as saying a second bystander may also have been hit.

“It is incredible that such an act can take place in our country.”
