Urging the guests to skip extravagant presents, the family said, “a vote for Narendra Modi will be the best gift you can give”

This wedding season, voting pitches on invitation cards seem to be back in vogue. Nandikanti Narsimlu, a resident of Telangana’s Sangareddy district, whose son is getting married on April 4, has asked the wedding guests to vote for Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

Urging the guests to skip extravagant presents for the wedding, the family instead printed– “A vote for Narendra Modi will be the best gift you can give”– on the wedding invites with a photograph of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Narsimlu’s only son, Sai Kumar, is getting married to Mahima Rani in Patancheru on April 4.

Talking about the idea, Narsimlu, a wooden materials supplier for building construction, said he opted for the message of invitation card out of regard for PM Modi.

“My family found the idea good and asked me to go ahead,” a report by Times of India quoted Narsimuuas saying.

Narsimlu is not the first one to do so. The trend started before the 2019 general election when several news reports surfaced about PM Modi’s ardent supporters opting to urge their guests to skip extravagant presents for their wedding and instead vote for Modi in polls.

The Election Commission even served a notice to a man in Uttarakhand who printed a message on his son’s wedding invitation card appealing to the guests to vote for Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the time. The notice was served for allegedly violating the model code of conduct.
