Police said that Asmita and Shrishti lived in DN Nagar, Andheri (West). On Monday afternoon, he set himself on fire in his apartment. The incident came to light when neighbors called the fire brigade after seeing the flames. The mother-daughter was taken to Cooper Hospital the same evening, where upon arrival the mother was declared dead and up to 70 per cent of the scorched daughter breathed her last day at the Airoli National Burns Center.
Why took the step of suicide?
Initial investigation has revealed that Asmita had been suffering from kidney disease for a long time. Troubled by this, she took a suicide-like step. At the same time, Shrishti could not bear the trauma of her mother’s illness and she also killed herself. Bharat Gaikwad, senior inspector of DN Nagar police station, said in his statement that he has registered two separate accidental death cases and has started investigating the case.
